Instructions:

 Upload your assignments in a proper format, i.e. MS word file. Corrupt files will be awarded
zero marks.
 The assignments should be zoomed in at 100%.
 Please avoid plagiarism; plagiarized work will be marked zero.
 After the due date, the assignments submitted via email would not be entertained.
 Please avoid submitting copied assignments; otherwise, such a case would be referred to the
discipline committee.
 Follow APA formatting style. Consult the latest edition of the APA Manual for guidance.
 The word limit for the first draft is between 1,500 and 2,000 words.

Note: Assignment 1 (First Draft) involves the finalization of the research topic, introduction to
the study, literature review, and research methodology. The assignment should be structured
around the following components:

Introduction

Background of the Study

Background to the study refers to the section in a research paper or proposal that provides
context for your research topic. It explains the broader area of interest, outlines the key issues or
problems related to the topic, and describes what has already been done in the field.

Statement of the Problem


A statement of the problem should be based on one brief paragraph. It should clearly establish
the aims of the research and the relationship sought between the variables/concepts of the study.
Objectives of the Study

Objectives always are set to explain or answer the research questions. Objectives are usually
headed by infinitive verbs such as: to identify, to describe, to determine, to compare, to analyze.

Research Questions/ Hypothesis


You should formulate research questions and hypothesis very clearly, by clearly mentioning
what needs to be explored and why they are worth exploring. Research questions need to be
clear, researchable, connected with already established theory and research, linked with each
other, Capable of making contribution to research.

Significance of the Study


This section describes the importance or potential benefits of the research. It specifies how your
study will improve, modify, or broaden the knowledge pool in the field under exploration. Make
note that such improvements/modifications may have significant implications also.

Delimitation

It refers to delimitation of the topic.

Literature Review

Theoretical Understanding
Provide a clear explanation of the theoretical background related to your research area. This sets
the foundation for your study and shows your understanding of key concepts and frameworks.

Review of Previous Studies


Include a review of at least four relevant studies that have already been conducted in your area of
interest. Summarize their findings, methods, and relevance to your topic.

Research Gap
Identify the gap in existing research that your study aims to address. Clearly explain what has not
been explored or adequately covered in the previous literature.

Research Methodology
The methodology section describes actions to be taken to investigate a research problem and the
rationale for the application of specific procedures or techniques used to identify, select, process,
and analyze information applied to understanding the problem.

Some major headings that must be a part of your methodology are:


 Research Design

 Research Method or Theoretical Framework

 Population

 Sampling Technique

 Sample size

 Instrumentation—instruments/ tools used for the data collection

 Validity and reliability of the tools/ questionnaires


References

References are the list of sources you have cited or consulted in your assignment, including books,
journal articles, websites, and other materials. They provide evidence, support your arguments, and
give credit to the original authors. You must follow APA style only when formatting your references.
