used as an effective tool to improve oral expression skills among 5th-

grade students at Instituto Educativo San Carlos?"

Lesson Plan: Using Storytelling to Enhance Oral Expression in 5th-Grade

Students

Objective: To improve students' oral expression skills through structured storytelling

activities, enabling them to express themselves more clearly, confidently, and creatively.

Grade: 5th Grade

School: Instituto Educativo San Carlos

Total Duration: 4 sessions - 4 CLASSES (55 minutes each)

Session 1 - CLASS 1: Introduction to Storytelling and Oral Expression (55

minutes)

Objective: Familiarize students with the basics of storytelling and oral expression skills.

1. Warm-Up (10 minutes)

- Activity: "Pass the Story" – In a circle, each student adds one line to a story based
on the previous line.

- Goal: Encourage quick thinking and creative expression.

2. Introduction to Storytelling Elements (15 minutes)

-Activity: Discuss key elements of a story (character, setting, plot, problem, resolution)
with examples from familiar children’s books (example, The Giving Tree by Shel
Silverstein or Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak).

-Goal: Build foundational knowledge of story structure.

3. Listening and Analyzing Stories (15 minutes)

-Activity: Teacher reads The Giving Tree, modeling clear expression, pacing, and
emphasis.

-Task: Students identify the elements in the story and discuss the character's
motivations and emotions.

-Goal: Enhance comprehension and listening skills, which support oral expression.

4. Group Reflection and Vocabulary Building (15 minutes)

-Activity: Students discuss their favorite parts of the story and share why, focusing on
descriptive words and emotions. Teacher introduces vocabulary to express feelings and
actions in stories.

Session 2 - CLASS 2: Story Development and Expression Techniques (55

minutes)

Objective: Develop storytelling skills and practice vocal expression.

1.Warm-Up: Emotion Freeze (10 minutes)

- Activity: Teacher calls out an emotion (example, excited, scared, curious), and
students act it out in freeze-frame poses.

-Goal: Help students connect emotions with expressions and gestures.

2. Story Creation Activity (20 minutes)

-Activity: In pairs, students create a short story using a provided prompt (example, “A
magical creature in the schoolyard”). Each story should have a clear beginning, middle,
and end.

resolution.

- Goal: Encourage collaborative thinking and expression.

- Goal: Build awareness of areas where students feel comfortable or need

improvement.

Session 3 - CLASS 3: Storytelling Presentations and Peer Feedback (55 minutes)

Objective: Encourage oral expression and storytelling skills through presentations and
constructive feedback.

1. Warm-Up: Rapid-Fire Story Prompts (10 minutes)

- Activity: Students receive quick prompts to begin a story (example, "Once upon a
time, a mysterious letter arrived…"), sharing one or two sentences.

- Goal: Boost creativity and comfort with spontaneous speaking.

2. Presenting Stories (25 minutes)

- Activity: Each pair presents their story to the class, focusing on clear pronunciation,
expression, and confidence.

- Goal: Build public speaking skills and reinforce storytelling techniques.

3. Peer Feedback Session (10 minutes)

I liked was...," "One thing to improve is...").

- Goal: Develop listening skills, constructive feedback abilities, and a supportive

environment for learning.

4. Reflection and Discussion (10 minutes)

- Discussion: Reflect on the experience of telling a story in front of others and

receiving feedback.
- Goal: Encourage self-reflection and peer support.

Objective: Reinforce oral expression skills through improvisational storytelling and a

final assessment.

1. Warm-Up: Story Dice (10 minutes)

- Activity: Use story dice with images to create impromptu stories in small groups.

- Goal: Develop quick thinking, creativity, and adaptability in oral expression.

2. Improvised Storytelling Activity (20 minutes)

- Activity: In small groups, students each contribute to a story based on one picture
card they draw from a set. Each card represents an event, place, or character they must
incorporate.

- Goal: Encourage fluent, adaptable oral skills as students build off each other’s ideas.

3. Final Individual Storytelling Task (20 minutes)
