Objective: Familiarize students with the basics of storytelling and oral expression skills.
- Activity: "Pass the Story" – In a circle, each student adds one line to a story based
on the previous line.
-Activity: Discuss key elements of a story (character, setting, plot, problem, resolution)
with examples from familiar children’s books (example, The Giving Tree by Shel
Silverstein or Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak).
-Activity: Teacher reads The Giving Tree, modeling clear expression, pacing, and
emphasis.
-Task: Students identify the elements in the story and discuss the character's
motivations and emotions.
-Goal: Enhance comprehension and listening skills, which support oral expression.
-Activity: Students discuss their favorite parts of the story and share why, focusing on
descriptive words and emotions. Teacher introduces vocabulary to express feelings and
actions in stories.
- Activity: Teacher calls out an emotion (example, excited, scared, curious), and
students act it out in freeze-frame poses.
-Activity: In pairs, students create a short story using a provided prompt (example, “A
magical creature in the schoolyard”). Each story should have a clear beginning, middle,
and end.
- Activity: Teacher demonstrates techniques for voice projection, pace, and clarity.
- Task: Students practice reading their story with expression in their pairs, focusing on
clear pronunciation and emotional expression.
- Discussion: What was challenging about creating and telling your story?
Objective: Encourage oral expression and storytelling skills through presentations and
constructive feedback.
- Activity: Students receive quick prompts to begin a story (example, "Once upon a
time, a mysterious letter arrived…"), sharing one or two sentences.
- Activity: Each pair presents their story to the class, focusing on clear pronunciation,
expression, and confidence.
- Activity: Classmates offer constructive feedback using a guide (example, "One thing
I liked was...," "One thing to improve is...").
- Activity: Use story dice with images to create impromptu stories in small groups.
- Activity: In small groups, students each contribute to a story based on one picture
card they draw from a set. Each card represents an event, place, or character they must
incorporate.
- Goal: Encourage fluent, adaptable oral skills as students build off each other’s ideas.
- Activity: Students create a short individual story using all elements learned,
incorporating vocal projection, pacing, and expressive gestures.
- Goal: Allow students to apply learned skills and demonstrate improvement in oral
expression.
2. Peer Feedback: Assess students’ ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
3. Final Storytelling Task: Evaluate students’ pronunciation, fluency, vocal projection,
and overall clarity in storytelling.
