TASK 2: Group Communication Simulation

Working together as a team to write a short story using Google Docs was a unique and
memorable experience. At first, we were unsure how well we would be able to
collaborate virtually, but the platform quickly proved to be a powerful tool for group
creativity and communication.
From the start, we divided our roles based on our strengths and interests. One of us
took the lead in outlining the plot, another focuses on character development, while
others contributed to dialogue and setting. Google Docs allowed us to work on the story
at the same time, regardless of where we were. We could see each other’s edits and
suggestions in real time, which made the writing process feel dynamic and interactive.
The comment feature in Google Docs was especially helpful. When someone had an
idea for a plot twist or wanted to change a character’s motivation, they could highlight
the relevant text and leave a comment. This made it easy for the rest of the team to
review suggestions, discuss them, and decide together what worked best for our story.
There were times when we disagreed, but the platform’s threaded comments helped us
resolve conflicts without confusion or frustration.
One challenge we faced was coordinating our schedules. Since we all had different
classes and commitments, it was sometimes hard to find a time when everyone could
meet online. To solve this, we used Google Docs’ ability to save changes and track
version history. Team members could contribute whenever they were available, and we
could always see who made which edits. This flexibility allowed us to keep making
progress even when we couldn’t all be online at once.
Another challenge was making sure everyone’s voice was heard. Sometimes, a few of
us would get carried away with our ideas and make big changes without consulting the
rest of the team. To address this, we agreed to check the comments and suggestions
before finalizing any major edits. We also set up a group chat outside of Google Docs to
quickly discuss urgent questions or brainstorm new ideas together.
Through this process, we learned the importance of communication and respect in
virtual teamwork. Google Docs helped us stay organized and transparent, but it was our
willingness to listen to each other and compromise that made our collaboration
successful. By the end of the project, our short story felt like a true team effort, with
each member’s unique style and creativity shining through.
In conclusion, collaborating on a short story as a team using Google Docs taught us
valuable lessons about teamwork, communication, and flexibility. The platform’s real-
time editing and commenting features made it easy to share ideas, give feedback, and
resolve disagreements. While we faced some challenges, we overcame them by setting
clear ground rules and supporting each other throughout the process. We are proud of
the story we created together and grateful for the experience of working as a virtual
team.
