Working from home

These days, because of the internet and fast communications, more and more people are able to work
remotely, from home. And while working from home can be really good for employees, it may actually be
of benefit to employers too. In a 2016 survey of American remote workers, 91% of people who work
remotely said that they're more productive at home than when they're in the office!

Of course, making sure that you spend your day just working (and not doing all the other things you need
to do at home!) can be challenging for some people. If you keep on getting distracted, remote work may
not be for you. Being disciplined and following a routine similar to the one you have in the office is very
helpful for avoiding distractions, so you should try to keep your normal office hours and take breaks. I
sometimes find when I work remotely that I eat lunch very late in the afternoon and I finish work well
past the time I know I should. In fact, I may do much longer hours when I work from home. Setting and
maintaining a healthy schedule is important for remote working to be effective.

There are many good things about working from home; less time on transport and the ability to set your
own working hours are two of them. Remote working does need some extra effort, but it definitely allows
you to be much more flexible. So, what are the long-term effects of the recent move towards working
remotely? Is it just a temporary trend? It may be too early to tell, but it certainly gives some people a
choice.

____ 41. The internet makes it easier to work from home.

____ 42. It can be hard to concentrate on just work when you’re at home.

____ 43. Everybody likes working from home.

____ 44. The writer works from home.

____ 45. When you work from home, you don’t need to have a routine.
