Reflect
1. OBSERVE
In assisting my resource teacher, I observed that certain personal traits, such
as being slightly strict, and essential competencies like classroom management and
the ability to maintain discipline, were not consistently displayed. As a result, the
class often fell into a state of disarray. Without a clear structure or sense of authority,
students began to test boundaries more frequently, leading to frequent disruptions.
This lack of order created an environment where students struggled to focus on the
lesson, and meaningful learning became difficult to achieve. The atmosphere In the
classroom seemed to lack a sense of purpose, as the absence of firm expectations
led to an erosion of respect between students and the teacher. This also affected
peer interactions, as students who thrived in structured environments began to
disengage. Their participation dwindled, and the classroom dynamics shifted toward
chaos rather than collaboration.
Reflecting on this experience, I realized how crucial it is for a teacher to establish a
balance between being approachable and maintaining authority. Being slightly strict
does not mean being unkind, but rather it allows the teacher to set clear boundaries
that help students feel secure in their learning environment. When classroom
management skills are underutilized, it can lead to missed opportunities for student
growth and achievement. Observing these effects firsthand has deepened my
understanding of the delicate balance required in effective teaching. A teacher must
be able to adapt their approach to meet the needs of their students while maintaining
an environment conducive to learning and growth.
2. REFLECT
The lack of certain personal trait and professional competencies I noticed in the
classroom may be due to the students’ age and grade level. Since my resource teacher
works with Grade 1 students, it seems like she often lets them play and allows certain
behaviors because, after all, they’re just innocent kids. I also think that family
background plays a role here. My resource teacher mentioned that many of her
students are children of fellow teachers, so she might be treading carefully in managing
the class to avoid potential conflicts with other parents who are also colleagues.
3. PLAN
I would like to address this problem by conducting an action research on Enhancing the
Focus of Grade 1 Pupils through Interactive and Engaging Classroom Strategies.
