Text:

"The Weathered Crown"

The crown of autumn, golden and sere,

Lies crumpled under the soldiered year.
The wind, with fingers both gnarled and grim,
Plucks threads of twilight from the brim
Of a sky grown heavy with ancient cries,
Laden with storms and last goodbyes.

The river's tongue laps dusty stone,

Whispering secrets long alone:
Of kings dethroned and banners torn,
Of seeds forgotten and fields forlorn.
Each leaf that breaks from trembling bough
Falls like a shattered soldier's vow.

The city walls are cracked and bowed,

Their pomp long swallowed by the cloud.
The streets, once bustling, now lie bare,
A relic's sigh in the thinning air.
And somewhere deep in a hollow well,
Old laughter clings like a broken spell.

Yet through this aching, ruined scene,

A stubborn sprig of clearest green
Cracks open stone and lifts its face,
Defiant in the crumbling place.
Hope, it hums in a silent tongue,
Is not a song for the old, but the young.
