1. Define automatic control.


2. Differentiate sensors from transducers
3. Clarify the phrase “Process Control”
4. What is a temperature transducer?
5. Write the equation of a control system using PID.
6. Difference between digital and analog control systems in terms of
noise and interference, efficiency, processing and handling:
7. Recognize a cascaded control in a PID controller.

8 (a) Produce an example of a process control using technological


advancements which operate analogously as natural process control in living
organisms.

8 (b) How does a thermistor work in a circuit?
9 (a) Classify sensors with examples:
(i) From a signal-conditioning viewpoint,
(ii) With respect to the physical property they are designed to
measure.
OR

9 (b) Explain the following terms; (i) Proportional, (ii) Integral, and (iii)
Derivative as used in industrial control systems.

10 (a) Differentiate process alarms from deviation alarms in industrial control


systems, with examples.

10(b) Explain, with examples, “ON-OFF” controllers.

11(a) Explain, using a sample block diagram, an example of a common


application of a sensor within process control systems, which would control
of a physical property, such as temperature;
