QUADRATIC EQUATIONS

1 A piece of cloth costs Rs. 200. If the piece was 5m longer and each metre of cloth cost Rs. 2
less, the cost of the piece would have remained unchanged. How long is the piece and what
is the original rate per metre?
2 The speed of an ant is (2t + 10) and after travelling for t minutes it covers a distance of 12m.

4 If one root of the quadratic equation 2x 2 − 3x + p = 0 is 3, find the other root of the
quadratic equation. Also find the value of p.
5 If 2 is a root of the equation x + bx + 12 = 0 and the equation x 2 + bx + q = 0 has equal

If twice the area of a smaller square is subtracted from the area of a larger square, the result
is 14 cm2. However, if twice the area of the larger square is added to three times the area of
the smaller square, the result is 203 cm2. Determine the sides of the two squares.

Find the value of k for which the given value x = 2 is a solution of kx + 2x − 3 = 0.
