Leon: Hey, Matilda. You look so upset. What is the matter with you?
Matilda: Hi, Leon. That is correct. I feel bad because of the problems damaging the earth.
Leon: What do you mean by that? Can you explain it more?
Matilda: Sure. The first one is climate change. As we both observe for last two years, the winters
are little bir hotter and the summers are colder than in the past. This destroys the balance of
nature, the animals die and the trees don’t give enough fruits. Also, global warming makes it
worse, and unfortunately we are responsible for this destruction.

Leon: Oh my God! That is terrible. Please, tell me more.

Matilda: Of course. According to a research, clean water sources are decreasing day by day because
of the pollution. People throw their garbage into the seas, factories pollute the rivers and
some of the fishermen don’t pay attention to the creatures in the water. As you know, nothing
can survive without water. 1- ______________.
Leon: That is right. What else?
Matilda: Air pollution. The first reason of it is using the energy sources that are harmful to nature.
I mean we need to prefer alternative and renewable energy sources like wind energy or solar
energy to fossil fuels immediately. If we take action and start using useful ways for heating or
lighting at homes too, this action will absolutely make a positive impact on environment.
Leon: I agree with you. What do you think about deforestation?

Matilda: It is the most terrible thing that people do to nature. 2-______________. When we do
that, lots of animals lose their habitat, some of endangered animals become extinct, the
amount of oxygen in the forests decreases and the toxic gases(fumes) in the air increase.
Leon: Let me ask you an important question. What can I do to protect the environment at home?

off, take shorter showers, plant a tree in your garden, recycle and sort out the things and use
