Basic Science Lesson: The Solar System

1. What is the Solar System?

The solar system is made up of the Sun and all the objects that orbit around it, including
planets, moons, asteroids, and comets.

2. The Planets (in order from the Sun):

1. Mercury – Smallest and closest to the Sun


2. Venus – Very hot and similar in size to Earth
3. Earth – Our home, the only planet known to support life
4. Mars – Called the "Red Planet"
5. Jupiter – Largest planet, has a Great Red Spot
6. Saturn – Known for its beautiful rings
7. Uranus – Spins on its side, light blue color
8. Neptune – Very cold and windy, dark blue color
