ACTIVITY 01
INTRODUCTION
In fulfillment of the National Service Scheme (NSS) objectives, our group of Three dedicated
individuals embarked in Contributing to National Level Initiatives of the Government of India
through Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
The Government of India has launched several transformative initiatives aimed at improving the
quality of life for its citizens and fostering sustainable development. Among these, the Swachh
Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission) stands out as a landmark campaign with far-reaching
impact. Launched on October 2, 2014, by Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the
mission aims to achieve universal sanitation coverage and encourage a culture of cleanliness
across urban and rural India. Inspired by the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, the Swachh Bharat
Abhiyan seeks not only to improve sanitation infrastructure but also to bring about a behavioral
change in people’s attitudes towards cleanliness and hygiene.
The mission promotes active public participation and encourages individuals, educational
institutions, workplaces, and civil society to come forward and take ownership of their
surroundings. Its goals include the elimination of open defecation, scientific solid waste
management, access to clean drinking water, and awareness creation regarding hygiene practices.
The success of the initiative lies in its ability to connect with people from all walks of life,
transforming cleanliness into a shared social responsibility.
As part of our commitment to national development, we have actively participated in the Swachh
Bharat campaign through various cleanliness drives, awareness programs, and sustainability
initiatives. These efforts are not limited to symbolic gestures but are designed to bring long-term
change in our community and promote environmental responsibility. Activities such as campus
cleanliness drives, waste segregation campaigns, installation of dustbins, plantation drives, and
hygiene awareness sessions have been conducted regularly to contribute to the broader objectives
of the mission.
By aligning our efforts with the goals of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, we aim to nurture a
cleaner, greener, and healthier environment. Such initiatives also serve to instill a sense of civic
duty, responsibility, and national pride among all stakeholders involved. This report highlights
the various steps undertaken by our organization/institution in support of the Swachh Bharat
Abhiyan and reflects our continued dedication to national-level goals set forth by the Government
of India.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
The activity not only helped in visibly improving the cleanliness of the surroundings but also
served to spread awareness about the importance of preserving our natural water bodies and
public spaces. Volunteers engaged in the collection of plastic wrappers, bottles, paper waste,
and other non-biodegradable materials that posed environmental hazards. Through this
initiative, we aimed to set an example for the local community and encourage sustainable
practices among visitors.
Our participation in this cleanliness drive reflects our ongoing efforts to contribute to the
broader goals of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. It reinforces the belief that real change begins
with small, consistent efforts at the grassroots level. By taking ownership of our
environment and acting responsibly, we take a step closer to realizing the vision of a Swachh
and Swasth Bharat.
As part of the cleanliness drive under the Swachh Bharat initiative, a team of three
volunteers, including students, faculty members, and local community members, participated
in cleaning dry waste near Markonahalli Dam. The volunteers were divided into groups to
cover different sections of the area surrounding the dam.
Collection of dry waste such as plastic bags, wrappers, bottles, paper, and other non-
biodegradable materials.
Awareness interaction with local visitors and nearby vendors on responsible waste
disposal.

Volunteer Feedback:
―It was a great experience to work together for a cause that affects everyone. Seeing the
area clean afterward made us feel proud of our small contribution, I hope this drive inspires
others to take similar steps. Cleanliness is not just a one-time action, it has to become a
habit‖

ACTIVITY 04
INTRODUCTION
Environmental conservation has become a critical priority in recent times due to increasing
deforestation, pollution, and the impacts of climate change. Trees play a vital role in maintaining
ecological balance, improving air quality, conserving biodiversity, and supporting sustainable
livelihoods.Inthiscontext,the―PlantationandAdoptionofPlants‖initiativewaslaunchedwith the aim
of promoting greenery, increasing environmental awareness, and encouraging individuals to take
personal responsibility for the protection and nurturing of the environment.
The concept of plant adoption adds a unique and impactful dimension to traditional tree
plantation drives. By encouraging individuals, families, institutions, and communities to "adopt"
and care for a plant or tree, the project fosters a sense of ownership and long-term commitment.
This approach ensures that planted saplings are not only placed in the ground but also nurtured
and monitored for healthy growth.
Under this initiative, plantation drives were organized in schools, public spaces, roadside areas,
community parks, and rural regions. Participants were educated about the benefits of trees, the
process of planting, and the importance of maintenance. Special focus was given to planting
native and climate-resilient species to ensure better survival rates and ecological relevance.
This project not only aimed at enhancing green cover but also at instilling environmental
responsibility, especially among the younger generation. Through collective efforts, the
plantation and adoption initiative seeks to contribute meaningfully to sustainable development
and a healthier planet for future generations.
18
ABOUT THE PROJECT
The plantation and adoption of plants are powerful actions toward building a sustainable and
greener environment, especially in rural settings where the connection between people and
nature is deeply rooted. This project was carried out in a small village by a group of
enthusiastic students, aiming not only to increase the green cover but also to spread
awareness about environmental responsibility and community involvement.
As part of the initiative, the students organized a plantation drive where a variety of
saplings—including native, medicinal, and fruit-bearing plants—were planted in and around
the village. These species were chosen to enhance local biodiversity, improve air and so il
quality, and provide long-term benefits to the ecosystem. In addition to planting saplings
themselves, the students also distributed plants to the village residents. This step empowered
the local community to become active participants in the greening effort, encouraging them
to take personal responsibility for nurturing the environment.
The concept of plant adoption was a key component of the project. Each student adopted one
or more plants, committing to their care by watering, protecting, and monitoring their
growth. Similarly, village residents who received plants were guided on how to take care of
them and were encouraged to treat the saplings as part of their households. This approach
created a sense of ownership and personal involvement, helping to ensure that the plants
would thrive long after the initial planting.
Through this initiative, the students not only contributed to environmental conservation but
also strengthened community ties. Their hands-on experience served as an educational
journey, teaching them the importance of sustainability, teamwork, and long-term care for
nature. The involvement of villagers ensured that the effort was shared and that its impact
would grow alongside the plants.
This project also aimed to create lasting environmental awareness through direct action and
education. The students conducted brief sessions with villagers, especially school children
and farmers, to highlight the importance of trees in combating climate change, preserving
groundwater, and supporting local wildlife. By involving multiple generations in both
planting and caring for the saplings, the initiative planted not just trees, but values
encouraging a culture of sustainability, care for the environment, and community-led
development. It laid the foundation for future green initiatives, proving that small efforts,
when embraced collectively, can lead to meaningful and lasting change.
This project was more than a plantation drive it was a collaborative effort to foster a greener,
healthier, and more environmentally responsible community, led by the energy of youth and
supported by the hearts of villagers.

CONCLUSION:
The plantation and adoption project in the village stands as a meaningful example of how small,
community-driven efforts can create a significant environmental impact. Through the active
participation of students and the involvement of local residents, the initiative successfully
combined education, action, and awareness. By planting and distributing saplings, and
encouraging their ongoing care, the project not only improved the local greenery but also inspired
a collective sense of responsibility towards nature.
More than just planting trees, this effort nurtured a mindset of sustainability and environmental
stewardship among both youth and villagers. It proved that when people come together with a
shared purpose, lasting change is possible. The bonds formed between students and the
community, and the visible growth of the plants in the coming months and years, will serve as a
living reminder of what teamwork and dedication to the environment can achieve.
