Tutorial 7

This document contains a tutorial for a course on Electric Circuit Analysis, focusing on three-phase circuits. It includes various problems related to calculating line currents, power, and power factors for different load configurations and impedances. The tutorial covers both balanced and unbalanced loads, as well as the use of wattmeters for measuring power in three-phase systems.

22EEC28 – ELECTRIC CIRCUIT ANALYSIS
Tutorial - 7 - ThreePhase Circuits

1. A three-phase balanced supply of 400V, 50 Hz is applied across a star-connected load of 10Ω in
each phase. Determine the line current and power.

2. In problem 1, calculate the power and power factor if the load in each phase is 4+j8 Ohms.

3. In problem 1, if the load in each phase is 4-j8 Ohms and delta connected, calculate the power and
power factor.

4. In the circuit shown below, calculate the line currents, power, and power factor. R, L, C values in
each phase are 10 Ω, 1 H and 100 μF respectively.

5. A 440V three-phase system supplies a star-connected load with the following branch impedances.
ZR=5<300 Ω, ZY=10<450 Ω and ZB=10<600 Ω. Determine the line currents. The phase sequence is
RYB.

6. In problem 5, if the phase sequence is RBY, calculate the line currents.

7. A three-phase balanced source with phase sequence R, Y, B supplies an unbalanced

delta-connected load with impedances ZRY = 5<300 Ω, ZYB = 10< - 450 Ω, and ZBR =10<600.
Calculate line currents. Draw the phasor diagram. Calculate the total power consumed by the
load.

8. The power input to a 2000V, 50 Hz, three-phase motor is measured by two wattmeters which
indicate 300kW and 100 kW respectively. Calculate the input power, power factor and line
currents.

9. Obtain the readings of two wattmeters in a three-phase three-wire system with 120V supply
connected to a delta-connected load with impedance 12<30o Ω in each phase.
