Let the smallest number be x; then the other numbers are

Form an equation:

Solve: 3x = 75
x = 25
In words:
The three numbers are 25, 26 and 27.
Check: 25 + 26 + 27 = 78
Example 2
The length of a rectangle is three times its width. If the
perimeter is 36 cm, find the width.
