HISTORY
Born on July 19, 1856, in the city of Smilijan, in the Austrian Empire, where
Croatia is today. Tesla belonged to an ethnic Serb family. His father was an
Orthodox priest and his mother was the daughter of an Orthodox priest.
Despite his father's desire for him to pursue a career in the priesthood, he,
after contracting cholera and nearly dying, managed to get his parents' support
for his studies in engineering. He studied at the Austrian Polytechnic Institute
in Graz and dropped out after 3 years, shaking his family relationship. Motivated
by his passion for electricity, he began working at the Continental Edison
Company and was soon promoted to electrical engineer.
Two years later, he went to the United States on the recommendation of his
former boss to work at the Edison Machine Works. When he saw that he would
not be properly compensated, he resigned (during this period he developed a
practice that he carried out throughout his life, compulsory work, his working
hours reached 18 hours a day)
HISTORY
After resigning from Edison Machine Works, Tesla started his
HISTORY
own company with the help of two investors, Robert Lane and
Benjamin Vail. His company was called Tesla Electric Light &
Manufacturing, but it was short-lived and soon went bankrupt
In 1887, Nikola Tesla invented an electric motor that worked
by electromagnetic induction. This motor worked by alternating
currents and proved to be simple, practical and easy to
maintain.
After his success with the alternating current electric motor,
Tesla moved on to other projects. In 1901, he began a project
to transmit electrical energy without the need for wires.
His attempt failed, since he was unable to transmit electrical
energy wirelessly. However, scientists say that this project
allowed the creation of objects, such as remote controls, and
that technologies, such as wireless internet, were possible.
Inventions Alternating Current (AC) System:
Tesla developed an alternating current system that was more
efficient than Thomas Edison's direct current (DC) system, which
allowed the transmission of electricity over long distances and
the generation of electrical energy more efficiently,
revolutionizing the way electricity is distributed and used.
Induction Motor:
This motor, which works with alternating current, was one of the
pillars of Tesla's AC system and is widely used in various
machines and industrial equipment to this day.
Radio:
Tesla was one of the pioneers in the area of wireless
communication, with the development of systems that preceded
modern radio technologies.
technologies and used in various locations
Inventions
Tesla Coil:
A device that generates high-frequency, high-voltage
electrical discharges, used for electricity studies and
wireless communication, and which is still used today in
demonstrations and electronic equipment
Niagara Falls Hydroelectric Power Plant:
Tesla was responsible for installing the alternating current
system in the first Niagara Falls hydroelectric power plant,
which supplied power to the city of Buffalo, New York
Tesla Turbine:
A type of bladeless turbine that converts the energy of a
fluid into mechanical energy, used in various sectors, such as
wind power and biomedicine
Fluorescent and Neon Lighting
Contributions to everyday life
Nikola Tesla made a significant
contribution to our daily lives
with his inventions such as
alternating currents and his
contributions to the creation of
remote controls, wireless
transmission and fluorescent
lamps.
His studies are relevant to the
scientific community to this day,
contributing to research and
discoveries.
