This lesson plan for Grade 10 Chemistry focuses on Gay-Lussac's Law, which states that at constant volume, the pressure of a gas is directly proportional to its absolute temperature. The lesson includes a 60-minute investigation through an experiment, the 'egg in a bottle,' to illustrate this concept, along with discussions and assessments related to temperature and pressure. Students will also explore real-life applications, such as the behavior of aerosol cans under heat.

A Detailed Lesson Plan in Chemistry

For Grade 10
Joan L. Lomo
February 5, 2018

I.OBJECTIVES
At the end of a 60-minute period, the learners will be able to investigate the relationship
between temperature and pressure at constant volume through observing an activity.
II.LEARNING CONTENT
A. Topic: Gay-Lussac’s Law
B. Time: 60 minutes
C. References:

crusher/,
D. Materials
Visual materials, cold water, basin, soda can
E. SKILLS
Investigating
F. SCIENCE CONCEPT
Gay-Lussac’s Law states that at constant volume, the pressure of a fixed mass of gas is
directly proportional to the absolute temperature.
It can be expressed mathematically as
P α T at constant Volume
It can be shown in this equation:
P1/P2=T1/T2
G. Values Integration
Determined and able to think logically
III.LEARNING PROCEDURE

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY LEARNER’S ACTIVITY

A. PREPARATION
Lemuel, please lead the prayer. - Lemuel, leads the prayer
Good Morning everyone! - Good morning Ma’am
Who is absent today? - None, Ma’am

Very good!

B. REVIEW OF THE LESSON

What we did and discussed last meeting?
- Ma’am, we did an activity involving
Charles’ law.
- Ma’am, we observed that the size of
the balloon when exposed to warm
water become bigger, as it exposed to
tap water it size remained the same
and lastly when it exposed to the ice
water the size of the balloon become
smaller.
- And we also solved the word problems
involving charles’ law.
C. MOTIVATION

Did you notice and why that at the back of the

aerosol can products has a warning stay away
in the heat?
- No ma’am
- Ma’am I think that the liquid inside
will evaporate immediately.
Aerosol can is a container under pressure.
Temperature of a gas increases, the gas
particles move faster and faster, when gas
particles are moving quickly, they hit the
insides of their container more frequently.
Now, the container that is holding these
particles may not be able to withstand those
high amounts of pressure. If the pressure
inside of the container exceeds the limits of
the container, an explosion could occur.

D. LESSON PROPER
For today's lesson please read the objectives
together.
- At the end of a 60-minutes period,
the learners will be able to investigate
the relationship between temperature
and pressure at constant volume
through observing an activity.

Class, before we will discuss the concept

behind to the aerosol can, first I will
demonstrate an experiment called “egg in a
bottle experiment. Observe properly what will
happen!
- Yes, ma’am!
1. Prepare a hard-boiled egg and peel it
2. Prepare the bottle glass
3. Light the paper with match stick and
put it inside the bottle
4. Cover the bottle using the egg
5. Observe what happen to the egg!
Okay, ________ what is your observation
about the experiment? - Ma’am, the egg was in the bottle

How is it? Anybody has an idea? - Ma’am, I think because of the heat.
- Ma’am, it is because the egg was soft
the reason it goes inside the bottle!

Class, the concept behind of this was Gay-

Lussac’s Law, which states that at constant
volume, the pressure of a fixed mass of gas is
directly proportional to the absolute
temperature.

Just like in the experiment, the reason why the

egg was in the bottle because at first the
temperature is high due to the light paper and
we cover the bottle using egg that has high
temperature but as the temperature decreasing
leads to decreasing of pressure inside the
bottle than the pressure outside that is why the
egg was in the bottle.

E. GENERALIZATION

Again, what is the relationship between the

pressure and temperature at constant volume?
- Directly proportional to each other!

As the temperature increase the pressure? - Increase also ma’am.!

IV. APPLICATION
Now, class the ball of basketball or tennis ball
will not bounce back high during cold time
because the molecules did not react because
of low temperature and low pressure!
And also that is why aerosol product must not
store in heat environment, because of high
temperature the pressure is high that cause
explosion!
V. ASSESSMENT/EVALUATION
1. What factors(2) affects the egg bottle
experiment? - Temperature and pressure

2. How pressure and temperature works

in the experiment? - the egg was in the bottle because at
first the temperature is high due to to
the light paper and we cover the bottle
using egg that has high temperature
but as the temperature decreasing leads
to decreasing of pressure inside the
bottle than the pressure outside that is
why the egg was in the bottle.

3. How temperature affects in this

experiment? - It affects big to the experiment,
because of heat it affects the pressure
of the gas molecules.

4. What is the relationship between

pressure and temperature? - Directly proportional

VI. ASSIGNMENT
In a ½ crosswise write one scenario that
involved gay-lussac’s law and explain how
this law works that scenario.
