THERE ARE MORE CESSNAS FLYING THAN ANY OTHER MAKE

CESSCO WICHITA

November 14, 1967

TO: CESSNA SALES AND SERVICE ORGANIZATION

SUBJECT: IMPROVED PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD RELIABILITY

MODELS AFFECTED: Nav/Com 300 (14 Volt - 90 and 360 Channel Radios)

Reports have been received of shorted power transistors in 14 Volt Nav/Com 300
Series radios due to electrically overheating of some of the resistors and
capacitors on the printed circuit board.

To correct this condition, the printed circuit board has been redesigned and be-
comes effective as follows:

Service Parts Center Shipments:

Radios and circuit boards shipped from the Cessna Service Parts Center
11-10-67 and on.

Production Aircraft:

Radios installed in aircraft which are delivered from Cessna 12-1-67 and on.

To improve the reliability of radios in the field, a Service Kit has been developed
and is to be installed in all Nav/Com 300 Series radios affected by this change
(see attached kit title page for radios affected).

A full parts credit and labor allowance will be issued in accordance with the
attached program schedule.

PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD MODIFICATION PROGRAM

Radios Affected:

The radios affected are all unmodified 14 Volt Nav/Com 300's (Types - RT517R,
RT515R, RT515R-1, and RT540A) using printed circuit board assembly #36100.

NOTE: Radios now equipped with the improved printed circuit

board can be identified by a special stamping located
on the upper flange of the chassis directly behind the
face plate.

360 Channel Radios - Stamped M-1

90 Channel Radios - Stamped M-2 (or M-1-2)

Modification:

Modification consists of replacing four (4) wire wound resistors and two
(2) capacitors on existing circuit board assemblies, part number 36100.
This modification reduces the temperature of the circuit board and is to
be accomplished on all affected radios as soon as possible. Details for
modifying the circuit board are provided in the attached Service Kit in-
structions.

Parts Required:

One (1) each Service Kit, SK205-8, (copy attached) is required to modify
each radio -- kits are available from the Cessna Service Parts Center ---
suggested list price is $2.70 (A).

NOTE TO DOMESTIC ZONES: An initial supply of 14 kits is being

automatically shipped and billed to
each Zone to expedite modification.
Additional quantities are to be ordered
as required.

Credit Program:

After the radio has been modified, the Dealer should fill out the Elec-
tronics Service Claim Form (D423-13) showing radio type and serial number.
The claim should be forwarded to the Dealer's Zone, who will in turn
forward them to the Cessna Return Goods Department. Upon receipt of the
completed claim at Cessna, Wichita, a full parts credit and labor allowance,
as outlined below, will be issued.

SK205-8 (Circuit Board Modification) - 1 Hour Labor Allowance at

Prevailing Shop Rate

To take advantage of this parts credit and labor allowance, claims must be
returned to Cessna, Wichita, before the following dates:

Domestic and Canada ------ June 1, 1968

Export ------------------- August 1, 1968

PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD REPLACEMENT

In the event the printed circuit board has been damaged and cannot be
modified in accordance with the above program, it should be replaced.

A limited supply of the new printed circuit board is available from the
Cessna Service Parts Center --- part number and price is shown below.

PART NUMBER DESCRIPTION SUGGESTED LIST PRICE

36100-0114 Circuit Board - 90 Channel Radio $32.90 (A)

36100-0014 Circuit Board - 360 Channel Radio $33.30 (A)

NOTE: Although the part number remains the same, new circuit
boards can be identified thru visual examination. New
circuit boards have R170 resistor relocated (Reference:
Figure 1, attached kit).

The new circuit boards are not completely interchangeable; therefore,

detailed instructions for installing new circuit boards on earlier radios
will be supplied with each new circuit board shipped from the Service
Parts Center.

Printed circuit boards requiring replacement may be returned to the Cessna

Return Goods Department for credit. The following labor allowance will
apply to replaced circuit boards.

Replace Circuit Board - 1 Hour Labor Allowance at Prevailing

Shop Rate

Claims for the above labor allowance must be received at Cessna, Wichita,
before the following dates:

Domestic and Canada ------ June 1, 1968

Export ------------------- August 1, 1968
