I.

Read the following statements carefully then beside each, mark whether or not you
agree with it. Beside your response indicate the corresponding reason.

Statement Agree Disagree Reason

1. One cannot teach ✔ Well actually, if it’s only “teaching”

without someone about certain information,
instructional then anybody can do that - we can
materials teach anyone without instructional
materials. However if it's a course or
any long road journey classes, then
it’s different. Instructional materials
as what is written in the pdf, it is the
heart of active engagement of
students in language learning.
Therefore it is essential so that
students can develop their abilities in
reading, writing, solving, thinking,
etc, through active engagement.
Without proper instructional
materials, then it would be like
teaching your students with your
blindfold on.

2. To facilitate a ✔ To facilitate a meaningful language

meaningful learning, tangible and intangible
language learning materials are needed most, not
experience, tangible only. As much as tangible is
tangible materials needed, so is intangible. As a teacher
are most needed. it is our duty to develop our students,
their knowledge, skills, etc. So it is of
importance that we also focus on
intangible materials to develop those.
We also need to monitor their
feelings while learning so that we can
say that it is truly a meaningful
language learning experience.

3. Having varied ✔ Having varied instructional material

instructional increases the opportunity for the
materials students as well as for the teacher to
guarantees holistic have a holistic learning. This means
learning that having varied instructional
materials can develop the students
abilities/skills, especially if the
teacher based it on principles of
interconnectedness and wholeness.

4. Anybody can ✔ If that anybody is a teacher, or

design and develop someone who is teaching someone
a learning materials then yes. Teachers can create their
for class use. own learning materials for class or
use designed one or ready-to-use
materials for class.

II. How do you visualize a teaching-learning activity-

Without instructional activity

A teaching-learning activity without instructional activity is like a treasure chest that doesn’t
have a treasure at all. How will students practice what they have learned if they’re not allowed
to practice at all? Instructional activities are necessary so that students and teachers can
participate or engage in class well using the materials and contents that were prepared.

With instructional activity

Contrary to the first option, teaching-learning activity with instructional activity is like a
treasure chest that is full of treasure with another map of adventure in finding another treasure
chest. This is the time where students can use their abilities to showcase it and will serve as an
opportunity to enhance their skills as well.

III. From the inputs, take down 5 essential words which struck you the most and explain
how these words can guide you in designing and developing an instructional material for
language learning.

1. Create/Design - this word struck me first, since I’ve learned that I can create/design my
own instructional learning material for language learning. This gives me the
opportunity to include materials that will be more of use for me as well as for my future
students.
2. Instructional - I’ve learned that creating an instructional material, it must allow the
students to practice or use the language they’ve learned. So that it will serve as a
playground for them and explore the language more.
3. Material - If there is that one word that stole my attention was this. I’ve learned that
materials are necessary in language learning. With this, the teacher can create their own
learning activities and with varied materials will increase the opportunity of having a
holistic learning for students.
4. Designed - I’ve learned that even if we don’t create our own instructional material, we
can actually use those that were already designed that are ready-to-be-use.
5. Heart - I’ve learned that designing an instructional material for language learning
means that you are designing your own heart or own core for language learning. This
means that instructional material is the core so that your class or students will be more
interactive in class.

2. Use these key words in crafting your own

recommendations/considerations on the development of
instructional materials for language learning.

Instructional materials are not your ordinary materials that you can just create on a whim. It’s a
material that will guide you and your students to have a meaningful language learning
experience. It is necessary that when you are creating your own instructional material, you
must consider or take into account that it is the heart of your language teaching journey to have
an interactive class. In designing so, make sure that your material is also instructional, that
your students are allowed to practice the target language. You may also use designed one which
are ready to use materials, but still it’s up to you whether you use it as a reference or your final
instructional material.

3. Why is there a need to develop an instructional material when

there are ready-made ones?

Developing your own instructional material is like having your personal guide for teaching.
Though there are ready-made ones but that doesn’t ensure that that ready-made one includes
the necessary materials that you need for teaching. Developing your own will give you the
chance to include what is needed and disclude what is not needed. Thus, you can have more
sequential and neat instructional materials that won’t confuse you at the end.
