14. CHAPTER HEADINGS, SUB-HEADINGS & HEADING LEVELS

There should be consistency in the font sizes and styles used for the report heading and subheadings.
So, a good understanding of the Heading levels is necessary.
The chapter name should be given only on the first page of chapter. This is the level 1 heading. The
first subtopic of this chapter would be the Level 2 heading and a subtopic coming under this Level
one heading would be Level 2 heading and so on.
The multi-level numbering should be used for numbering the various levels of headings. 1, 1.1, 1.1.1,
1.2.1 etc. to represent the various level of subheadings in chapter 1.
The font size and style to be used for various heading levels in all chapters are as follows.

acknowledged by citing the sources. The American Psychological Association’s (APA, writing
style, as detailed in the APA Manual, 6 th Edition, shall be used to cite references. References
should be cited in text with author-date citation system and all references should be listed
alphabetically in the “References” listed at the end of the report. Ensure that the text citation
and entry in the “References” are identical in spelling of author name and year.
Author-Date Citation system: APA requires the use of in-text parenthetical citations. These
In-text parenthetical citations lead the reader to the bibliographic information included in the
alphabetical list of references at the end of the report. In-text citation means the author whose
opinions or quotations or facts collected by him are burrowed is acknowledged in the text of the
report. There are two ways of handling In-text citation.
Author’s name incorporated in sentence, in which case only the year of publication need be
given within parenthesis (brackets) like this.

Barrow (1996) found that …….

The author’s name not incorporated in the sentence. In this case the Authors Last
name and year of publication within parenthesis, Like this (Barrow, 1996)
In case of two authors, cite both the names every time these authors are referenced, like this
(Barrow & Rose, 2005).
In case there are more than two authors, then cite all the author’s the first time and in
subsequent references use the word et all after the first author. For example,

Smith, Ruby, Jones (2015) argued that …..

Smith et all. (2015) observed that…..
References / Bibliography: In APA style the alphabetical list of works cited is called
“References”. However, we would be using the word Bibliography instead of References.
As you prepare your Bibliography follow these guidelines
Each entry in the Bibliography should have the following 4 elements which should be in the
order given below.
Author’s Last name, followed by First name and middle name
Year of publication within parenthesis.
Title of the article in italics.
Publisher information. Name of the Publisher followed by the Place of publication

In the case of an article in a journal the Title field should have the title of the article and the title
of the Journal with volume and page numbers where the article appears. The primary source, in
this case, is the Journal and hence it should be in Italics.
In the case of information collected from a Web source, the URL of the site from where the
information was retrieved and the date on which it was retrieved should be given. Often the
author’s name or the details of the publisher in company web sites may not be available. In this
case the domain name of the company could be taken as the author, and the corporate office of
the company could be given in the publisher’s information. If the year of publishing in not
available, use (n.d.) within brackets indicating “no date” can be used. See sample below

17. APPENDIX
This is the last part of the report. All pictures, Annual reports etc. sample questionnaires used
in the study and all other documents which are relevant but do not directly contribute to the
study should be placed in the Annexure. The figures and tables appearing in the Annexure
should also be serial numbered as per the formats explained earlier and should appear in the list
