1 a) Discuss in brief, the conventional methods of power generation m India and


comment on the present status and their future trends. 6
b) With help of neat diagram, explain the principle of nuclear power plant [Boiling

c) With help of neat diagram. Explain the principle of hydro elective power plant and
signify the role of governor system in operation of hydel power plant. 7 2 3

9 a) Classify the hydro electric power plant turbines and discuss their characteristics. 5 2 3

b) Discuss the different radio active emissions from the nuclear power plant and
mention the procedural step for nuclear waste disposal. 7 3

c) The average weekly discharge (Q) measured at a site is given below.

c) A I00MW steam station uses a coal of calorific value 6400 K/calorie per kg,
thermal efficiency of station is 30% and electrical efficiency is 92%. Calculate the
coal consumption per hour. When the station is delivering its full rated output. 6 2

relevant expression justify the advantages of transmitting the power at high
