Hi, you are through Dr. Maria. I have been a Veterinary

Surgeon for 15 years and will be happy to help you with
all your questions today.

I am sorry Impala ingested crystal meth!

I am also sorry your question went unanswered: different

professionals log in at different times and on occasions,
the volume of requests is too high. I saw your concerns
and I thought I might be able to help.

What are her symptoms at the moment?

Generally speaking, it only takes 0.5 milligrams per

kilogram of a dog's body weight to cause adverse signs
of amphetamine poisoning.
Signs we tend to see in these situations generally
include restlessness, agitation, hyperactivity, increased
breathing and heart rate, shaking, and tremors. As well
we do also have the risk of seizures, collapse, and death
in high-dose cases.
The first step here is to keep her calm and monitor
closely.
Depending on the time that has passed since ingestion,
you can still consider treating her with OTC-activated
charcoal from the pharmacy to bind any remaining
material in her stomach. For activated charcoal, we tend
to give 500mg per pound is given every 8 hrs. This can
be mixed with food to be fed or with water to syringe
feed (do note that it stains, so keep it away from white
carpets/clothes). This will just limit how much she
absorbs and reduce the intoxication risk here. And
hopefully prevent any worsening of signs.
Further, we want to see if we can keep her calm. Ideally,
we want her somewhere quiet and dimly lit so she can
settle.
If she were to worsen or just cannot drink or eat to flush
this drug out of her system, I have to say that it would be
ideal to have her hospitalized at the vet. The vet does
have client confidentiality and will only be interested in
helping, and not in getting anyone in trouble.
As well, acepromazine or chlorpromazine can be given
to counteract the effects of the drug.
I hope this information helps!

Hello, this is Dr. Maria following up to see if you have

any additional questions and to check on Impala. I will
answer any inquiries when I am next logged on, thank
you!
