Reflective writing is a crucial part of the writing field. Reflective writing is important for
looking back at past experiences to perform better in the future. It analyses, explores and
explains what happened and why. And it also usually incorporates models and theory.
Meanwhile, it uses academic language. Reflective writing considers its strengths,
weaknesses, anxieties and errors.
The Key Components of Reflective writing
Reflective writing is a practice in which the writer examines a past event from the present.
The writer considers about which writes about experience, exploring in how the writer a has
developed, grown or changed from the events.
The key components of reflective writing are, self-awareness,critical thinking organization
and supporting evidence.
Self-awareness :
It involves understanding our feelings, attitudes, and responses to particular situation or
experience. It is important for acknowledging our strengths, weaknesses, and areas for
improvement.
Critical thinking :
It needs to analyse the situation or experience and questioning our assumptions.
Organisation :
This involves structuring our reflective writing in an argumentaric and coherent way.
Support in evidence :
Supporting evidence is used for providing evidence to support our reflections.
This could be in the form of personal experiences, observations,or theoretical material.
Reflection :
This is the most important part of reflective writing.This involves looking back on the
situation or experience.
Examples :
During my university studies I understood myself struggle in with time management.
I was very busy with the workload and understood it hard to balance my daliy tasks with my
studies.
Critical thinking :
On reflection, I realized that I had made miscalculations regarding my tasks. I had not
imagined deeply about all the tasks with me. The reality was very different from my thinking.
I realized that I needed to reanalyze and replaning work according to time.
Organization :
I decided to prepare a timetable to manage my time more effectively. I allocated specific time
for studying and earning.
Support in evidence :
After rescheduling my timetable, I noticed an improvement in my results.
Reflection :
Clearly, I realized that this experience changed me and I realized how important time
management is in one's life.
