(REF: KAMP PRATIBHAOTSAV ON SEP 6TH, 2023, NEW DELHI)

As we make significant strides in the field of Science and Technology, it becomes increasingly clear that

programs like KAMP are not just beneficial but absolutely essential. The rising aspirations of Indian youth

underscore the importance of initiatives like these, which serve as powerful motivators. They have the potential

to ignite the scientific curiosity of students and, in the long run, foster a culture of innovation in our nation.
ABOUT KAMP
Knowledge and Awareness Mapping Platform “KAMP” is an International intellect E-based
assessment platform to evaluate cognizance of 21st-century skills, awareness, and

Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources (CSIR-NISCAIR) and
National Institute of Science, Technology and Development Studies (CSIR-NISTADS).

CSIR-NIScPR for its science communication part carved out a niche for itself, perhaps
the only institution of its kind in Asia, to bring out 18 peer-reviewed research journals
covering major disciplines of science and technology ranging from physics to radio-
physics, chemistry to chemical technology, experimental biology to biotechnology,
and intellectual property rights to traditional knowledge, popular science books and
popular science magazines namely Science Reporter, VigyanPragati and Science Ki

WHAT IS SCIENTIFIC TEMPER?
Scientific temperament refers to an individual’s attitude toward logical and rational thinking. An individual is
considered to have a scientific temper if s/he employs a scientific method of decision-making in everyday life.
The term was first coined by India’s first Hon'ble Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, in his book 'The
Discovery of India'.
When the fundamental duties were added to the Constitution in 1976 through Article 51A, the eighth duty stated:
“It shall be the duty of every citizen of India to develop the scientific temper, humanism and the spirit of inquiry
and reform.” This made the Constitution one of the few that requires the spirit of inquiry and scientific temper
as a foundational aspect of society.

The Government of India, through the National Council for Science and Technology Communication, dedicated
the 28th February National Science Day of 2014 to the theme "Fostering Scientific Temper"

Indian Constitution on Scientific Temperament

Article 51 A of our constitution which deals with fundamental duties

makes it a duty of every citizen to develop Scientific Temper; (as per
clause [h]). It is the Scientific Temper that helps in developing
Secularism, Humanism & Spirit of enquiry and reform.

Knowledge and Awareness Mapping Platform (KAMP) is the first initiative taken by CSIR-NIScPR and NCPL, to
map the scientific temperament and attitude of young students based on their assessment outcome and
nurture them as future scientists of the country. It believes that every student is blessed with a core talent and
aimed to bring out the best in them through this platform.

Assessment
KAMP - NATIONAL ASSESSMENT FOR SCIENTIFIC
TEMPERAMENT & APTITUDE (NASTA)
It has been realized that there is a critical need to assess students’ knowledge and skill with a holistic approach
to problem-solving and develop their perspectives from Rote Learning to Learning based on Knowing Applying

NASTA
and Reasoning. Therefore, KAMP’s National Assessment for Scientific Temperament & Aptitude (NASTA)
assessment has been designed and aligned with the National Education Policy 2020,' to emphasize the
development of the creative potential of each individual and develop their scientific temperament through
excursions, training and assessment. Students of classes III–XII can participate in KAMP – NASTA.

What is it like for students and schools to participate in NASTA?

NASTA is administered offline/online to students during regular school hours. Each student is assessed on
the different attributes of NASTA. Students spend between 90 and 120 minutes taking the assessment.
Student responses on NASTA are private, and the privacy of each participating school and student is
essential. KAMP Planning & Monitoring Committee sets the NASTA policy, determines the assessment
schedule, and what content should be measured. NASTA may be administered in English, Hindi, or other
regional languages. All students/schools of CBSE, ICSE/ISC, other State Boards, and other institutions can
participate in NASTA.

Need of NASTA

NASTA assess a comprehensive, integrated approach in mapping the scientific temperament of young
brains.
Building a concept to develop an understanding of the scientific aspects of nature.
To help the student identify their hidden talent and provides a platform for self-assessment.
Mapping and help nurturing the scientific aptitude among students.

Impact and Outcome of NASTA

Identify learning outcome levels of students in India and abroad.

Comprehensive advisory for students/parents which will help in identifying the areas of strength.
Data and Analytics may support policymakers to analyze the current learner’s level.
Support schools to provide an enabling environment to identify students with unique skills.
Help nurture their skills/talents by creating Centre of Excellence (CoE).

COMMENDATIONS

As we make significant strides in the field of Science and Technology,

it becomes increasingly clear that programs like KAMP are not just
beneficial but absolutely essential. The rising aspirations of Indian
youth underscore the importance of initiatives like these, which serve
as powerful motivators. They have the potential to ignite the scientific
curiosity of students and, in the long run, foster a culture of innovation
in our nation.

Dr. Jitendra Singh

(Hon’ble Minister Of State (I/C),
Minister Of Science And Technology & Vice President, CSIR)
Addressing at KAMP Pratibhaotsav on Sep 6th, 2023

NEP 2020 marks a big change in education, helping each child/student

find what they're good at. This revolutionary policy focuses on
integrative education, holistic knowledge, and experiential learning,
steering away from rote methods. Recognizing the pivotal role of
assessment in shaping children's learning experiences, we stress the
imperative for every child to have opportunities to showcase and
develop their innate abilities.
Shri Sanjay Kumar
Secretary, Department of School
Education & Literacy
Ministry of Education

In a nation with a population of 1.4 billion, approximately 10% must be

school-going children, yet many lack access to quality education.
Numerous villages face a shortage of teachers and essential educational
resources, leading students to attend school primarily for midday meals
rather than learning. We need to find great teachers and make teaching a
more appealing job to fix the education system. Our main aim is to make
sure everyone gets a good education.
