CHAPTER ONE

1.0 INTRODUCTION
This report covers the production and installation of interlocking concrete block pavers
(ICBPs) at the front of the Civil Engineering Department near the farm entrance, Kaduna
Polytechnic. The project aims to enhance the aesthetics, accessibility, and durability of the
pavement area using locally produced interlocking bricks. The selected area spans a total of
84.69 square meters, and more than 4,000 interlocking blocks were used for the
construction.

CHAPTER TWO

2.0 MATERIALS USED

The materials used in the production of the interlocking blocks include:
- Dangote Cement
- Sharp Sand (fine aggregate)
- Granite (coarse aggregate)
- Clean Water

All materials were sourced locally. A mix ratio of 3:2:1 was used (3 parts sand, 2 parts
granite, 1 part cement), and water was added to achieve proper workability.

CHAPTER THREE

3.0 METHODOLOGY
The interlocking blocks were produced using a manual wet cast method. Molds were lightly
oiled before casting. A thin layer of cement slurry was applied before placing the concrete
mix. Proper compaction and vibration were ensured during molding to eliminate air voids.
Curing was done by water sprinkling and shade curing for adequate hydration and strength
development.

CHAPTER FOUR

4.0 INSTALLATION
The ground was leveled and compacted. A sand bedding layer of approximately 25–30 mm
was laid. Blocks were placed in the desired pattern (brick bond). After laying, plate
compaction was performed to set the blocks firmly. Jointing sand was then swept into the
gaps.
CHAPTER FIVE

5.0 CONCLUSION
The interlocking paving project in front of the Civil Engineering Department successfully
covered an area of 84.69 m². Over 4,000 blocks were laid using a 3:2:1 concrete mix. The
project not only enhanced the beauty of the area but also provided a durable and
maintainable paving solution. This report serves as documentation of the procedures
followed and materials used.
