TASK-4

INSTALLATION OF RED HAT LINUX

Every student should install Linux on the computer. This computer should have windows installed. The system
should be configured as dual boot with both windows and Linux.

AIM: To install The Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 operating system on the personal computer.
Hardware Requirements: Personal Computer, Linux Bootable USB
Software Requirements: Linux OS

THEORY:

Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6 Is a version of the commercial linux distribution developed by red hat for the
enterprise market It is released in 2010.

PROCEDURE:
1. Boot from the Installation Media

 Insert the bootable USB drive or DVD into your system.


 Restart the system and enter the BIOS/UEFI setup (usually by pressing a key like F2, F12, Esc,
or Del during startup).
 Set the boot priority to boot from the USB drive or DVD.

2. Start the installation.


 When the system boots from the installation media, you will see the Red Hat Enterprise Linux
boot screen.
 Select the install or upgrade an existing system option and press enter.

3. Select Language and Keyboard.
Choose your preferred language and keyboard layout and click "Next."

4. Choose skip media test, click ok if you want to check media.

5. Select storage device.
 Select the storage device to install RHEL 6 on. You can choose "Basic Storage Devices" for local storage
or "Specialized Storage Devices" for advanced options and click next.

6. Type computer name or hostname.


 Set the hostname for your system and click next.

7. Select time zone location.

8. Enter password for root user.

 Set a strong root password and click next.

9. Select type of installation and review partitioning layout carefully also may choose Encrypt system.
 Choose a partitioning option. You can select "Use All Space" to automatically partition the entire disk or
choose a custom partitioning scheme.
 If you choose custom partitioning, create the necessary partitions (e.g., /, swap, /home) and allocate
appropriate sizes. Click "Next" when done.

10. Review partitioning layout, modify if needed. I have chosen default setup with Ext4 and LVM.

11. Manually configuration of LVM and RAID storage.


 Standard partition: OS is stored on the only one disk.
 Raid Partition: OS is stored on the 4 or 5 disks.

12. Creating partition and formatting file systems.
 After creation of standard partition please select a device and click next.

13. Configuring boot loader options, also can give boot loader password for security reason.

14. Select applications to install and select customize now.

17. Installation is completed successfully.

18. Please reboot your computer and login with root credentials as you set in the Step #8.
 On the first boot, you will need to complete the initial setup, including creating a user account and
setting up system updates.

Result: Thus, the installation of Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system is successfully installed on the
system.
