Question 3 – Number Pairs


Find a pair of positive numbers with a sum of 50 and a difference of 8.

Question 4 – Indices
Simplify each of the following expressions making sure there are NO negative indices:

a) x⁴ (4⁻¹ y²)⁻²

b) (x² y³)³ / 4x

Question 5 – Line Equation


The points (c, 6) and (8, 3) lie on line A. Line A is parallel to the line B with equation y = -
1.5x + 2.

Find the value of c.


Question 6 – Similar Triangles
In a triangle diagram where ST || PR, given that SP = 6 cm, QS = 9 cm, and PR = 18 cm:

a) Prove that △SQT is similar to △PQT.

In triangle XYZ, ∠X = 90°. The lengths of the three sides are x cm, (x + 6) cm, and (x + 10)
cm.

a) Write and simplify a quadratic equation in x that links the three sides of the triangle.

b) Solve the quadratic equation using the method of completing the square.

c) Find the perimeter of the triangle.

d) Calculate the area of the triangle.
