Widened, raised mid-block crossing with western build out and B-phase Flush mid-block crossing with B-phase

Trees and low-level planting in cycle buffer Trees and low-level planting in cycle buffer

Mid-block crossing to Vincent Street – interim, 10-15 year design

South bound bus priority South bound bus priority

Concrete separators to create cycle lanes Concrete separators to create cycle lanes

Existing carriageway kerbs and footpaths Existing carriageway kerbs and footpaths

Rationale for changes:

• The mid-block crossing is flush due appropriate controls in place for reduced speed – narrowed carriage way, bus lane, signalised
pedestrian crossing.

to allow for ease of movement.
Enable right-hand turn into Canada Street from Upper Queen Street There is no operational advantage from having two right hand turns
within 60m (Cross Street and Canada Street) - open for further
investigation.

Rationale for changes:

• The change to allow right-hand turns from Mercury Lane into Canada Street results from requests from Cross Street businesses
that East Street be returned to two-way to allow for improved access to precinct. The right-hand turn provides access from Mercury
Lane along Canada Street to East Street.
• Right hand-turn from Upper Queen Street into Cross Street provides access into the precinct without the need to add another right

Improve street lighting Streetlight added near corner with Mercury Lane.

Planters in between loading zones along length of the street Reduced number of planters. Retain planters at southern corner of
intersection with Upper Queen St only
Parking and loading changes Proposed new parking and loading changes
• No paid on-street parking. • Retain paid parking at eastern end, with pricing to encourage turn over
• Add mobility parking space at Mercury Lane end • Retain carshare on the southern side at Mercury Lane (western) end
• Move ride share space to southern side (from northern side) • Provide loading and servicing on both sides of street at/towards Mercury
• Move P5 space from Mercury Lane to Cross Street Lane (western) end

Additional footpath space on road, separated with concrete separators. Investigate options to provide continuous footpath on the southern side by
creating a ‘boardwalk’ over the retaining wall trench alongside Wilson
carpark.
Speed calming measures – entering Cross Street from Upper Queen, another One rubber speed bump, at the western end, only, prior to start of shared
mid-way,towards Mercury Lane space and mobility parking
Add single cycle separator on Upper Queen St, southern side of Cross St
intersection to protect people cycling.

Rationale for changes:

• Due to interim, no-dig approach in Cross Street no additional street lighting is proposed.
• Planters are reduced in number in part due to challenges providing adequate maintenance, leading to poor outcomes. Change
supported by Council / Eke Panuku.
• Feedback from businesses in Cross Street indicated concerns about produce damage from speed bumps.
• Paid parking at eastern end is retained in response local business feedback.
