1. Introduction
This section provides descriptive information for the complete Bendix FCS-810
Flight Control System as displayed in figure 1-1.
2. System Description
The FCS-810 Flight Control System comprises a fully integrated 3-axis, 2-surface
auto-pilot. It is designed for use in heavier single and light to medium weight twin-
engine aircraft. The system automatically maneuvers the aircraft in response to
preselected flight control functions. These functions include the following:
The concept of this system is to combine signal information from many sources and
apply it to both an autopilot and a flight director. Two instruments are used to display
navigation and attitude information; the Horizontal Situation Display Indicator (HSD)
and Director Horizon Indicator (DHI), respectively.
The DHI is a multiple purpose instrument that displays pitch and roll attitude of the
aircraft and computed steering signals for flight director operation.
The FCS-810 system allows a wide range of component selection which provides great
system flexibility. The system consists of a flight controller, a computer-amplifier,
a power supply, an altitude controller, control-surface servos, a directional gyro
(slaved or non-slaved), and optional flight director instrumentation (DHI and HSD) or
a standard attitude gyro and cross-pointer navigation display. Total weight for the
fully integrated system is about 30 pounds; the basic autopilot weighs approximately
18 pounds. Power consumption of the complete system is approximately 8 A at 14
Vdo, or 6. 5 A at 28 Vdc.
3. Equipment Description
Table 1-1 describes all of the units that may be combined in various configurations to
meet desired operational requirements. Interconnect drawings, in Section VI, show
various system configurations.

The controller and slaving meter may be installed in the throttle quadrant
ground or instrument panel.
C. Control Wheel
The autopilot (A/P) release, pitch trim, and go-around (GA) switches are
mounted on the control wheel. The go-around switch may be mounted at the
throttle quadrant in some installations.
D. Radio Compartment
The computer-amplifier, power supply, remote slaved gyro, and altitude con-
troller will normally be shelf-mounted either in the fore or aft radio compart-
ments.
E. Fuselage
(1) The flux sensor and N-S/E-W corrector may be mounted in the outer-wing
or tail group; in a spot removed from magnetic disturbances.
(2) The roll servo must be located to engage the aileron cable or control.
(3) Pitch and Pitch-Trim servos must be located to engage elevator and trim
cables or controls.
F. Special Considerations
(2) The flux sensor, slaved gyro, and altitude controller must be positioned for
normal level flight.
(3) The slaved gyro must be installed vertically on its shockmount. Do not
mount within twelve inches of high current carrying wires or strong magnetic
fields.
4. Harness Fabrication
Review all optional configurations, and the approved STC installation drawings, for
exact equipment location before fabricating the required harness. Depending on the
aircraft type, most of the work may be completed on the shop bench and then trans-
ferred to the aircraft for completion.

(8) Refer to the ST C installation drawings for clutch torque settings for the
specific aircraft.
(10) From the torque wrench, carefully read the breakaway point and readjust
torque nut as necessary.
(11) Reassemble capstan pulley, flat washer, and retaining ring on the pulley
support shaft; as shown in figure 2-5. Do not intermix parts from other
servos.
6. Servo Installation
The STC installation drawings provide drilling, cutout, bracket, and hardware
information for correct mounting of all servos. Figure 2-6 depicts a typical instal-
lation for the Pitch or Roll Servos. Figure 2-7 is typical for the Pitch Trim Servo.
Aircraft structure and brackets are not shown.
The FC-813( ) Controller must be adjusted to the values indicated in the latest
revision of FCS-810 Flight Control System Installation Application Data Service
Bulletin 810-001 prior to the installation, or at any time deemed necessary. Final
adjustment will be performed in the flight check. See figure 3-1 for control location.
Prior to making adjustment to the PITCH GRADIENT potentiometer (R3), connect
a jumper from TP1 to TP2 on the flight controller printed circuit board. Connect
a VOM between the indicated pins on J1 for each control and adjust to the resistance
value required for that particular aircraft. Service Bulletin 810-001 will be ex-
panded to cover additional aircraft, as the information becomes available.
The flight controller may now be installed in preparation for subsequent ground and
flight checks.
NOTE: All controls are factory set to mean values that provide a safe starting
point for additional trimming in each aircraft type. If these controls
should be misadjusted, refer to the latest revision of Service Bulletin
810-001 to re-establish the proper starting point prior to further testing.

Introduction
This section contains interconnect drawings for the complete system. They provide
unit-to-unit and pin-to-pin wiring information for harness fabrication. Although
this manual contains the latest issue of the interconnect drawings, these drawings are
still applicable to earlier installations.
When interfacing with other systems, consult the appropriate manual for tie-in
information.
While this manual covers the FCS-810 System with new type connectors, a pin
conversion chart is included to correlate the new versus old connector pins.
The NEW type connector relates to Winchester. The old type connector relates to
AMP.
