MASTER DATA

Master data is a onetime creation data stored in central data base in an easy access screen.
Data that is created centrally, and is valid for all applications. It remains constant over time but
we need to update it on a regular basis.
For example: Vendor is a type of master data that is used for creating purchase orders or
contracts.

Types of Master Data


1. Material Master Data
2. Vendor Master Data
3. Purchase Info Record
4. Source List
5. Quota Arrangement

Material Master Data


Material master recorded all the information of material like Name, size and UOM as it will be
accessed by all other user departments, every department has its own data Recorded in the
material master.

Pre-requisites of Material Master Data:


a) Industry sector
b) Material Type
c) Number Ranges
a) Industry sector
Definition: It is a factor determines screen sequence and field selection in a master record.

Path: SPRO-SAP Reference IMG-Logistic General-MM-Field selection-Define Industry sector


T-code: OMS3

Step 1: Select Define Industry sector and Industry sector specific field selection
Step 2: Click on New Entries.

Step 3: Fill in all the necessary details such as Indurstry sector with description and Field
reference.

Step 4: Click on Save. A new Industry sector will be created.

b) Material Type
Definition: Materials which are having the similar attributes are categorized together and
assigned to a material types for the purpose of account determination

FERT Finished goods

HALB Semi-finished material

Step 1: Select Define attributes of Material types


Step 2: Select existing Material type and copy.

Now change your Material type name with description.


Click enter and go to position, enter Valuation area(I.e., Plant) and material type and update
quantity and valve.

After updating click on the save button, A new material type will be created.

C) Number Ranges
Definition: A Number range is a Group of numbers to which the unique-Id created for an SAP
Object belongs
• External number range assignment − While creating a material, you have to enter your
own Number (containing alphabetic or numeric) and that should be unique within defined
range.
• Internal number range assignment − While creating a material, you need not enter any
Number. The system automatically generates a unique number to that material within
defined range.

Define Number Ranges
T-code: MMNR

Step 1: Click on Define number range for each material type


Step 2: Click on groups, then click on create button.

Step 3: Enter group and ranges, then save it.

Step 3: Search material type “FFTT” and click on element/group, then assign to number range
group and save it.

MM03 – Material Display

Step 1: Click on Material(general)


Step 2: Fill in all required details like material number if external number assignment, material
type, industry sector.
Step 3: Select the views you want to maintain for your material, then go to organizational
levels.

Step 4: Enter name of plant and storage location.


Step 5: Enter the required information in your material views like unit of measure,Mateterial
description, currency, Valuation class,standard price, moving price etc. Click on save. A new
material “7011” will be created.
