LANDFORMS LANDFORMS A landform is a natural or artificial feature of the sold surface of the Earth or other planetary body which is part of the terrain. The geomorphic agents Gke glacier, running water (river) wind, ground water, and sea waves form different landforms on the earth. These geomorphic agents also known as agents of erosion acting over long periods of time produce systematic changes, leading to sequential development of landforms. Ee ae = a VALLEY A valley is a type of landform. A valley is a lower part in the land that sits between two higher parts which might be hills or mountains. Valleys often start as a downward fold between two upward folds in the surface of the Earth, and sometimes as a rift valley. MOUNTAIN Mountain, landform that rises prominently above its surroundings, generally exhibiting steep slopes, a relatively confined summit area, and considerable local relief. Mountains generally are understood to be larger than hills, but the term has no standardized geological meaning. VOLCANO A volcano is a landform created during an event where fava comes out from the Earth's crust. While volcanoes erupting, molten fava pushes the ground upwards until it goes out of the volcanoes vent. Continuous eruption leaves layers of fava and makes the volcano higher or wider. A plain is a broad area of relatively flat land. They cover more than one-third of the world's land area. Plains exist on every continent. A canyon is a deep valley that is also narrow and cut by a river through rock, Canyons differ in size from narrow cuts to mega trenches. They consist of very steep sides and maybe thousands of feet deep. Smatler valleys of identical appearance are known as gorges. WATERFALL i \ an een Ae. = A cascade of water falling from a height, formed when a river or stream flows over a precipice or steep incline. ISLAND An island landform is land that is completely surrounded by water. It can be any type of land The island can also be surrounded different types of water such as a sea, ocean, river and lake. There are a lot of famous islands in the world One of the most famous island landforms are the Hawati islands. Deltas are wetlands that form as rivers empty their water and sediment into another body of water, such as an ocean, lake, or another river. PLATEA A plateau is a flat, elevated landform that rises sharply above the surrounding area on at least one side. Plateaus occur on every continent and take up a third of the Earths land. Al desert landform is a place that gets little to no rain, The climate can be either hot or cold and sometimes both. Each desert landform has one thing in common; it has less than 10 inches of rain per year. Usually deserts have a lot of wind because they are flat and have no vegetation to block, out the wind. PENINSULA A. peninsula is a landform that is mostly, but not completely, surrounded by water. A peninsula will be connected to a larger landmass, such as a continent or an island, but it will extend out from the mainland into the water prominently. COASTLINE The boundary of a coast, where land meets water, is called the coastline. Waves, tides, and currents help create coastlines. When waves crash onto shore, they wear away at, or erode, the land. But they also leave behind fittle parts of the sea, such as shells, sand dollars, seaweeds, and hermit crabs. ed Fanke Dunes are mounds of loose sand created by wind and are the most well known aeofian features. There are a varitety of types of dunes, depending on their shape. Most dunes share a common profile, or cross section, with a long shallow angle (stoss) facing into the wind, a peak (crest), and a steep lee side. A cliff is a type of landform on the surface of the Earth. They are tall, steep rocks that were created by erosion and have vertical (straight up-and-down) faces. Cave, also called cavern, natural opening in the earth large enough for human exploration. Such a cavity is Sormed in many types of rock. and by many processes. A beach is a narrow, genthy sloping strip of land that fies along the edge of an ocean, lake, or river. Materials such as sand, pebbles, rocks, etc.. A fill is a landform that extends above the surrounding terrain. It often has a distinct summit. A naturally raised area of land, not as high or craggy as a mountain.
