There are two assumptions in this equation. The first is that Henry’s law
holds between 1 atm. and the pressure of the measurement (really the partial
pressure of the gas), and the second is that the gas behaves ideally between
the temperature T and 273.15 K. Where sufficient data are available, these
assumptions may be checked. Generally, the assumptions are good for
measurements near atmospheric pressure, for temperatures not more than 50
K from 273.15 K, for mole-fraction solubilities (at 1 atm.) less than 0.01, and
for precisions of 1% or poorer.
By using the ideal-gas equation, it is possible to express Vs(STP) as
