4.0 EXECUTION AND SEQUENCE OF WORK

4.1 Diversion of Meda Ela

o Prior to any demolition or backfilling works, Meda Ela will be diverted to ensure a
safe working environment.

4.2 Demolition Works

o The existing cover slab will be demolished using an excavator.

4.3 Reuse of Demolished Material


o Selected demolition debris, with particle sizes not exceeding 75 mm, will be reused
for backfilling purposes.
4.4 Leveling and Compaction of Demolished Material
o The selected demolished material will be spread, leveled, and compacted using an 8-
ton roller.
4.5 Soil Transportation
o Additional soil required for backfilling will be transported from the stockpile located
at Ampitiya to the KMTT site.
4.6 Backfilling and Compaction
o Backfilling will be carried out in layers, each with a compacted thickness of 200 mm.
o Top 500mm backfilling will be done with Type-I soil taken from borrowpits and
below layers will be backfilled with Type-II soil.
o Compaction will be performed using a roller and Wacker compactors.
4.7 Compaction Requirements
o The degree of compaction for bottom layers shall be a minimum of 93% of the
Maximum Dry Density (MDD) determined by BS 1377 test 13(Modified proctor).
o The top layers shall be compacted to not less than 95% of MDD determined by BS
1377 test 13(Modified proctor).
o Field density tests will be arranged for once 500m2 or once each laer with the
presence of the Engineer to ensure compliance.

4.8 Moisture Control


o If the backfilling soil is dry, water sprinkling will be carried out during compaction to
maintain the optimum moisture content.

5.2 IDENTIFIED RISK, RISK ASSESSMENT AND RISK LEVELS

The following hazards and risks are evaluated for the activities of pile cap construction.
5.2.1 Risks with heavy machinery / Equipment
 Accident due to failure of machine
 Accident due to moving machineries.
 Accident due to wrong operations.
 Failure of lifting equipments.

f) Ear muffs.
g) Hand Gloves.

5.5 ACTION IN CASE OF ACCIDENT / EMERGENCY OCCURED


The following actions will be taken in case of accidenet/ emergency occurred.
1) Call First Aid team.
2) Evacuate unnecessary personnel from the location.
3) Remove hazardous identified at the location safely.
4) Arrange rescue operation.

5) Call necessary Institutions and services for emergency attendance.


6) Inquiry on the incident.

6.0 ENVIRONMENTAL & SOCIAL CONCERN


The Environmental Control Measures shall be implemented in the following sequence whenever
& wherever practicable.
 Elimination at source, any adverse environmental impacts,
 Engineering control / design,
 Administrative Control,
 Personal protective equipment or multiple measures Environmental Control Measures.

Dust Control
 Dust generation from earth will be controlled by wetting.
 Spread of dust generated by power tool operations will be controlled by dust covers.
 Tyre washing bays for vehicles and machineries depart from site.
 Proper house keeping.

 Arrange fitness test and emission test for vahicles and machineris.
