Phases of Cardiac cycle

Definition : cardiac cycle is defined as the sequence of electrical and

mechanical
events occurring in a single heart beat.
DURATION - 0.8 seconds
PHASES OF CARDIAC CYCLE

ATRIAL VENTRICULAR
CYCLE CYCLE

1.ATRIAL SYSTOLE 1. VENTRICULAR SYSTOLE

(0.1s) (0.3s)
2.ATRIAL DIASTOLE 2. VENTRICULAR DIASTOLE
(0.7s) (0.5s)
Ventricular systole Phase of iso volumetric contraction (0.05s)
Phase of ventricular ejection
A) rapid ejection phase (0.1s)
B) slow ejection phase (0.15s)
Ventricular diastole Early diastole
A) proto diastole (0.04s)
B) iso volumetric relaxation (0.08s)
Late diastole
A) rapid filling phase (0.09s)
B) diastasis (0.19s)
C) last rapid filling phase (0.1s)
Mechanical events of cardiac cycle
1. Events in Late diastole
2. Atrial systole
3. Ventricular systole
4. Early diastole
General points of cardiac cycle * - venous return to atria is continuous
Systole - contraction
- increased pressure in chamber
-blood volume in chamber decrease
Diastole - relaxation
- decreased pressure in chamber
- blood volume in chamber increases
Av valves open due to increased atrial pressure and semi lunar valves Closure of av valves when ventricular
closed pressure increases than atrial pressure

Closure of semilunar valves when pressure Opening of semilunar valves due to increased ventricular pressure and av
exceeds in aorta and pulmonary trunk valve remain closed
