Beam BBS
Beam BBS
The above beam has a clear span of 6 metres and is made up of two layers of the bottom (2 numbers of 20 mm
diameter) and one layer of the top (2 numbers of 12mm diameter). It is divided into three zones, with stirrups of 150
mm spacing in Zone 1 and Zone 3 and 200 mm spacing in Zone 2.
The observations that can be drawn from the above figure are:-
Cutting Length of top bar= Clear span of beam + development length ((L_d)) on 2 sides - clear cover on 2 ends.
=7150mm
Step 2- Cutting Length of Bottom Bar (25mm dia@ 3.85kg/m)
Cutting Length of bottom bar= Clear span of beam + development length ((L_d)) on 2 sides - clear cover on 2 ends.
=8450mm
The number of stirrups required for Zone 1= (Clear Span of Beam/Spacing of Stirrups) + 1
The number of stirrups required for Zone 2= (Clear Span of Beam/Spacing of Stirrups) - 1
=(2000/200)-1= 9 numbers.
The reason for the “minus 1 “ is that zone 1 has an end stirrup so we don’t need to again start from a new one. We
just continue with the stirrups already existing with extra spacing.
Total = 37 numbers
= 2(a+b) +
=1592mm
