Moodle Guide for Students (77)
What is Moodle?
Moodle is a C.M.S. (Content Management System) with open-source license dedicated exclusively to
online learning, better known as e-learning.
Moodle, in a more specific way, is called L.M.S. (Learning Management System), a system for
managing online course design to create virtual classes that allow distance learning and training
experiences.
Why Moodle?
The main features of Moodle are to relay on very solid pedagogical principles, which response to the
principles of constructive teaching based on confrontation and negotiation, an active approach to
the construction of the knowledge.

To log in to your Moodle account, enter the following URL into your browser’s address bar:
moodle.britanniaeducationgroup.co.uk, then enter your student email address and password in
their respective fields.
The users can insert the below URL into the search bar and get access to the Britannia Education
Group Moodle.
By clicking on “login/register” button on the upper right corner, the student can log into Moodle.

After clicking the login button at the upper right corner, the users will get below display after
inserting username/email and password. In case if the user forgets the password, it can be reset by
clicking the forgot password button as illustrated below.

2. Dashboard
After logging into Moodle, the first display will be a dashboard, and it is the first option in the start
menu as well.
There is a button at the left side of the dashboard with the name of customising this page.
Student can click on this button to make changes according to the preferences.

Student can stop customisation by clicking on the stop customising page as highlighted
below.
The setting button provides options to set learning plans block according to the choices.
After logging in, you will find your courses in the centre of the page. Selecting a course on this list
will take you to that course’s home page. Recently accessed course will also appear on your
dashboard as highlighted below.
< > Buttons are used to see other courses in which you are enrolled.

The below image displays a typical course home page. The course’s name will be displayed at the top
of the page, and a list of the contents in the course will be displayed in the course content area on
the page. To access contents within a topic, select the topic’s name in the course content area.

By clicking on the below-highlighted button, a student can see content available in that
particular course.

5. Announcements
Announcements about different important schedules, i.e. online live sessions timings with a tutor
will appear in the announcements section as highlighted below.
5.1. Checkbox
Student can download the file by clicking on it, and for moving to the next resource, the student has
to mark the current activity as complete as illustrated below.

In a discussion forum, tutors will generally provide a topic for you to post a response and may also
require that you respond to other students’ posts on the topic. However, there are other uses for
discussion forums, so be sure that you carefully read your instructor’s requirements for each forum.
To access a discussion forum, use the forum’s link on the course home page.
6.1. Discussion Forum
After clicking on the discussion forum, the next display will look like the below image. Here you will
be able to read the forum instructions, add a new post, and read and reply to other’s posts. To post,
first read the instructions and requirements for the discussion forum. When you are ready to add
your post to the forum, use the add a new discussion topic button to begin the process.
You can add a new discussion topic as illustrated below at the left side of the image.
There is a page setting button at the left corner by clicking on it student can subscribe or
unsubscribe from a particular forum.

This will display the content of that post. If you wish to reply, you may do so by entering your reply
in the add your reply section and using the submit button. By clicking on the advanced button, the
student can also upload and send attachments in a forum.

After marking the last quiz as completed student can submit his assignment now by clicking the
assignment.

After clicking on assignment, the next display will look like the below image. Here you will see your
tutor’s directions for the assignment, the submission status, and the add submission button. If your
tutor has asked you to submit a file for the assignment, you can do that by using the add submission
button. This will bring you to the file submissions page. You can drag and drop files into the area
below, or you can add them with the file picker by selecting the add icon.

Verify that the correct file appears in the file submissions field, and select save changes.

If your tutor has enabled draft mode, your assignment submission status will be in draft (not
submitted) status, and you will be required to use the submit assignment button to finish the
process. When your assignment has been fully submitted, you will see the submission status
indicated as submitted for grading.
Lastly, when submitting an assignment, your tutor may have enabled a feature which
allows you to provide a comment with your submission. If enabled, you will see the submission
comments section on the submission status page.

In the course content page, there is a button on the right side with the name of “message my
teacher”. Name(s) of the tutors will appear below this statement users can click on the name of the
teacher and can contact them.
After clicking on the name of the tutor, the next display will look like a below image.
The student can type the message and click the send button to message the tutor.

8.2. Notification
When the tutor replies you back, there will be a notification of the number of messages
that will appear on the chat button as highlighted below.
Student can click on the chat button to see the message, and the next display will look like the below
image. Reply to your message will appear on the private message category as highlighted below.
