Original version: My distress is evident from the way my feet stomp their way on the marbel floor of

my school hallway. I look back to make sure all my classmates are here. I walk along the line and give
slight tap on their shoulders to keep the count. My best friend, Kashish notices this and tells me to
calm down. She gestures me to keep walking and relax. Many would assume I forget that my
classmates are the same age as me and are maturing the same way I am, I’ve been called
overbearing or a strict rule follower before. I just take the responsibility of being the class president
too seriously at times. It has gotten me in trouble with a few of my classmates before as my strict
nature with rules has given a reason to a few of my classmates to find me annoying. It is as if none of
them understand that if I slip away from that responsibility, how much trouble I invite for all of us. I
cannot bear to be seen as inefficient or irresponsible by anyone, especially our extremely strict class
teacher.

I have given my all this past week to prepare the entire script for our class play. From handling
everyone and making sure it turns out perfect to maintaining everyone’s discipline and making sure
everyone knows what they are supposed to be doing. I have had to repeat same things over and over
again, a few times yell at the incompetence of a few of my classmates but then try to cool down and
handle everything politely and endure any mockery and unsolicited remarks from them.

The class teacher’s standards are over the roof at that too. Constant rejection of many parts of the
script brought me to clearing everything up and redoing it all over again until it was perfect. That
came with directing my classmates repeatedly as well

The play was supposed to be from a chapter in our hindi literature textbook.

It wasn’t easy to make a play out of our teacher’s selected chapter however. It was a collection of the
author’s childhood memories without any dialogue or a proper story to follow. So creating the
dialogue was a bit of a challenge but I learned that allowing the actors to improvise with a clear
script to direct them was much fruitful as it brought an accurate depiction of young boys being young
boys.

We finally arrived at the play venue of our school. I gave everyone a last revision of the whole script
and cleared any last minute doubts they had in mind. Luckily the narrators, being some of the top
students in our class, were the most well prepared of our cast.

As I watched our play go on, a proud feeling bubbled up in me. I was proud not of myself, but of my
classmates. Despite of their snarky remarks at my overbearing nature, they went along with
everything and contributed well to the project.

Despite of it looking as if I did everything, it was a team effort and a good one.

I gave the ending remarks for our play and we were applauded by the judges.

After being met with the appreciation from my teacher as well as my classmates my heart swoll with
pride.

Revised version:

Her feet stomped heavily on the marble floor of the school hallway, revealing her evident distress.
She turned around to check if all her classmates were present and started walking along the line,
tapping their shoulders slightly to keep count. Her best friend Kashish noticed her anxiousness and
gestured for her to calm down and relax. However, she took her duty as class president too seriously
at times, often being called overbearing or strict.
She was responsible for preparing the script for their class play and had given her all in ensuring its
success. From handling everyone to maintaining discipline and making sure everyone knew their
parts, she had repeated herself several times and even yelled at a few incompetent classmates. The
class teacher’s standards were high, which meant that she had to redo many parts of the script until
it was perfect.

Making a play out of their Hindi literature textbook chapter was no easy feat either. It was a
collection of the author’s childhood memories without any dialogue or a proper story to follow.
However, she managed to create a clear script to direct her classmates and allowed them to
improvise when needed.

As they arrived at the play venue, she gave everyone a final revision of the script and cleared any
last-minute doubts. The narrators, who were some of the top students in the class, were well-
prepared, much to her relief. As the play progressed, she felt proud of her classmates despite their
snarky remarks about her overbearing nature. It was a team effort, and everyone contributed well to
the project.

When the play ended, she gave the final remarks and they received applause from the judges. Her
heart swelled with pride after receiving appreciation from both her classmates and teacher.
