I can read and write English well but I can’t

speak fluently and have trouble

understanding what native English speakers
say. How can I improve my listening and
speaking skills?
Hey,
Even I was facing the same problem that you are facing
now. I overcame and now I can speak English fluently. I
want to suggest some tips which will help you to
become fluent in English in a month or less.
These are the top 5 tips you must follow:
1. Watch English movies with subtitles
It is the best way to learn any language by listening to
native speakers. In English movies, you will listen to
native speakers. In movies, words are used as part of a
story with context helps you to learn and remember
words more effectively.
2. Start thinking in English
Start thinking in English even though it seems difficult
at the starting. Once you include that one in your daily
life, it will be easy for you to present yourself in front of
others in a confident manner.
3. Speak in front of others, do not hesitate
As a beginner, you might be doing many grammatical
mistakes or you won't be getting a proper word to
present your thought at that point. Don't hesitate to
speak in front of others. It's because unless you start
you can't reach an advanced state.
4. Practice Practice Practice
If you are a shy person then speaking English in front of
the mirror will help you to get out of your shyness, and
make you more confident.
5. Take note, whenever you come across new
words
Make a note of new words, whenever you come across
them like in conversation, newspaper, movies, radio, or
audiobooks. Learn new words with meaning and
pronunciation. If you learn 5 words daily you can
accumulate 1500+ words by end of the year.
These are not just random tips. These tips are learned
by spending lots of fees. So please go through and
follow them carefully.

All the best for your success……

Hi whosoever you are!!
Try to use these idea.
1. Record your own audio in voice recorder and listen to
it. Do it on regular basis.
I usually record my chapters and listen it. It helps me in
both Improving active speaking as well as academics.
2. Watch your favourite movie and enact your famous
character in front of mirror or video record it.
3. Whenever you talk with customer care services try to
speak in English. They will never discourage you; it's
their responsibility to be nice to you.
4. Never translate English in your mind, try to think in
English. Observe things around you and have an
English perception.
5. This one is my favourite, learn and sing English
songs. I download lyrics of my favourite song from
www.a-z lyrics. com. , read it and sing it.
Last but not least, what actually fluency means?
Fluency means talking in the way other person can
easily understand you. So, you need not to be super-
fast rather talk slowly and use very simple sentence.
Hope it helps. Feel free to ask any other question (if
any)?

Why is my written English pretty fluent, but I

cannot speak it very well?

Congrats, if you can write well in English that

means you have command over the language.
Some people cannot speak English , since they do not
know the language which is not true in your case.
Now coming back to your concern of your spoken
English not being so good, the reasons could be many.
1. Lack of practice - Now how are you fluent in
your own language or mother tongue? Because
you converse consistently in the same language
with your parents, relatives and other people who
know your language. Same goes with spoken
English. It is no rocket science. Practice as much
as you can.
2. Fear - Take out the fear out of your mind of
being ridiculed for not pronouncing well or being
stuck up in your mind about a particular word. At
times our internal fears become our limitations
for growth. Take humours on your English
sportingly, if encountered. Will anyone make joke
on Barrack Obama if he tries to speak Hindi with
inappropriate accent or pronunciation? No? So
take out the fear of being ridiculed.
3. Use mixed language - When at home or with
friends, use mixed language to answer. For
example you may ask your mom that can you
bring “water” instead of using your mother
tongue for the word water. Similarly incorporate
this for food, fruits and any other item. Slowly
your confidence will grow up, your vocabulary
would be enhanced.
4. Announce your goal - Announce to your friends
and relatives that you are trying to gain
confidence over your spoken English and ask
them for their support. Tell your friends who are
fluent in English to correct you whenever you
make mistakes. It is often noticed that once we
announce our goals publicly, our chances of
success are high!
5. Build your vocabulary - In the age of smart
phone, immediately look up for English word for
any word that comes to your mind when you are
free and journal it. Try to use it the same day in
a sentence with basic grammar. Repeat the
usage until it gets registered to your mind. I do
this when I am travelling. I find 3–4 new words,
journal them and then later use them in my
writing. Learning is a continual process and it
should not stop ever.
6. Write-Read-Repeat Rule - This is my own tried
and tested method. Write a small essay on
anything around you and read it aloud. Do it
again for 3 different things in a day. For
example , you may see a crow, write a small
essay on it. Read it aloud. Repeat this with other
object like car. This way you will dedicate 10–15
minutes of your time to sharpen your
skills.Currently I am trying this method with my 6
year old too and believe me it works!
Over and above, dedicate your 30 minutes to any
Indian news channel , just to check how sentences are
articulated in spoken English. I am referring Indian
channel since currently our focus is on language , not
accent and you must be comfortable in your native
English accent.
Good Luck!

This may be due to the lack of self-confidence. You

need to feel proud of whatever you know, this is further
going to help you while speaking English. ‘Spoken
English’ is actually not so difficult, but the way people
deal with it, it’s saddening. So, I would prefer you to
follow the following points-
1. Speak in front of the mirror. This will help you in
boosting inner confidence.
2. Talk in alone. In case, you have any sibling who
knows English well, try talking with him/her in English.
If, you don’t have one, talk to yourself. This will surely
help.
3. Watch English movies, songs and documentaries. Try
to use their words, phrases and lines in your own
language.
4. Lastly, watch online counselling classes. Try to notice
their confidence while they are addressing the
audience, it’s Marvelous. Try to imitate their way of
talking, you’d find it very beneficial.
Hope my advice turns out to be fruitful.
Four tips on improving your English speaking skills.
1. Don't be afraid to make mistakes. Native
speaker always hesitate to speak English to
other. But without practice and try we can't not
speak. So don't afraid only speck yourself and
friend family. One day you speck properly. Even
native English speakers make mistakes
2. Listen - let's going to start one English drama
series every day and Practice there dialogue.
3. Practice. Practice makes a man perfect. Without
practice we cannot speak good English so
practice
4. Think in English. Try to Think in English. In
starting time you will not think in English but after
21 day we will think automatically in English.
Thanks

What I would suggest is building up your fluency and

confidence by acting and reading aloud. Look online
and find some famous American or English plays
(depending on which accent you prefer), such as
“Death of a Salesman” which you can get the script for,
plus get your hands on a broadcast of the play.
Sitting alone, listen to a minute or two of dialogue.
Using your best overacting abilities, speaking loudly
and dramatically, copy the speech and the manner of
speaking (pausing the clip). Again, aim to out-American
the Americans! If you stumble, just say the sentence
again as much as you like, until it flows smoothly and
as boastfully—or however— as desired. You want to
copy the intonation and the attitude as well as the
words.
You could also do the same thing with imitating
children’s cartoons.
Also, political speeches are good to imitate. Politicians
speak very loudly, clearly and emphatically since they
want EVERYONE to understand them, plus they want to
make it clear they are determined and will get the job
done. Keep your finger on the pause button, and copy
the phrases, and aim to take yourself (very) seriously
for a future political career!

In fact, since you may want to launch yourself into

politics, write your own speeches! Make them serious,
or ridiculous, as you please.

Also, read whatever books or stories you like aloud.

Again, keep in character(s), talk loudly, and feel free to
repeat as needed to feel comfortable.
Once you get comfortable speaking loudly and
changing character with different types of speech and
mood, it becomes much easier to express yourself in
your target language. But since the words are written
down, or copied from a film or a page, you don’t have
to worry about correct grammar.
Later on you will just know what to say more easily.

What is the difference between slang words,

colloquialisms, and idioms?
Slang words= those words which are not considered better for
formal writing but still used in writings/colloquially.

Colloquialism= the terms/words which are only used in

conversations/dialogue only.

Idioms=idioms are expressions which have a figurative

meaning and the meaning is different from its words literally
