CLINICAL POSTING GUIDELINES

• The students will be responsible, regular, punctual, disciplined and motivated.


• They will exhibit professionalism in their dressing, learning and behavior in the
hospital.
• They will incorporate medical ethics into their interactions in the hospital.
• They will observe all aspects of patient safety.
• They will demonstrate excellent communication skills with colleagues, doctors,
nurses, paramedical staff and patients.
• They will be the active part of OPDs, ward rounds and will observe/perform minor
procedures.
• Each student will bring their own equipments required for clinical examination daily.
• For effective learning & teaching the following is emphasized:
• Students should identify one group leader among themselves who would be
responsible to develop effective communication between students & facilitator,
regarding the tasks given or any other area of concern.
• It should be clear to all students that marks are allocated in all areas including
attendance, punctuality and behavior, participation in interactive sessions, case
presentations, case histories, log books and end of rotation evaluation.
• As per University rules, students having attendance less than 75% would not be
allowed to sit in end of rotation evaluation.
• Students should get their log books signed on daily basis by the facilitator.
• Students would be required to do the topic/case presentation as per schedule given to
them at the start of rotation. If a student fails to do the presentation on his/her turn,
he/she would not be given a second chance and marks of presentation would not be
given to him/her.
• Students would be required to submit eight case histories. Histories should be written
individually and if found copied marks would be deducted.

BED ALLOTTMENT: Two beds each will be allotted to each student. They will need to take
a complete history and examination of each patient in their journal. The students should be
up-to-date on the status of their patient, they should observe/assist/perform any therapeutic
and diagnostic procedures of their patient. They will be responsible for counselling e.g diet,
prophylactic measures, and therapeutic regimens etc. for their patients.

At least eight complete case notes should be submitted by the student at the end of their
rotation. These case notes will carry 10 marks each in the end of rotation test.

ASSESSMENT PLAN

CLINICAL: a ward test will be taken after the rotation. This will include

• History taking
• Complete examination
• Recognition of instruments and their use.
• Recognition of medicines
• Interpretation of investigations.
• Problem solving.

The students will need at least 80% marks in their ward test

INTERNAL ASSESSMENT:

The student will have 20% of marks of the final university exam given as internal
assessment. These marks will include their attendance, ward test, term tests and end of
module test.
