Technical Interview Assignment for Level

1 Technician
Digital Link Technician Evaluation

Introduction
This document outlines the technical assignment for evaluating candidates applying for
a Level 1 Technician position at Digital Link. The tasks provided will assess the
candidate's ability to perform foundational technical skills, demonstrate problem-
solving capabilities, and ensure familiarity with hardware, software, and network
configurations.

Assignment Tasks
1. Set Up a Desktop Computer
• Connect the provided monitor, keyboard, mouse, and network cable to the
desktop computer.
• Ensure all connections are secure and properly aligned.

2. Power On and Reinstall Windows


• Power on the desktop computer.
• Boot to the provided USB drive.
• Follow instructions to reinstall Windows on the machine.

3. Configure the Wireless Router


Candidates are required to configure the provided wireless router with the following
settings:

• Admin Password: Set the admin password to DigitalLink2025.


• Time zone: Configure the time zone to match the local time zone.
• ISP WAN Connection: Set it to Dynamic IP.
• WAN Port: Configure the WAN port to use the default device MAC address.
• Wireless Settings:
• Set the SSID to DL_Training.
• Set the wireless password to Training2025!.

LAN Subnet: Configure the LAN subnet to 10.52.1.1.


DHCP Server: Set the DHCP range to 100-200.

Computer NIC Configuration: Set the computer's NIC to have a static IP address of
10.52.1.10.

4. Test Network Connectivity


• Log into the provided mailbox using the settings provided during the interview.
• Send a test email to confirm that the network and internet connectivity are
functioning correctly.
• Verify the router and modem are securely connected, ensuring that all cables
and connections are properly seated.

5. Call and complete a ticket

• Call a user once the computer is all set up and walk them through logging into a
Microsoft 365 mailbox over the phone. Once they are in the mailbox, have them provide
you with the code listed within the email. Once the code has been provided, your
technical assessment will be complete.

Evaluation Criteria
The assessment will focus on the following areas:

• Hardware Setup: Ability to correctly connect and configure all physical


components.
• Software Installation: Understanding of reinstalling an operating system and
following technical instructions.
• Network Configuration: Precision in router setup, LAN subnet configuration, and
NIC setup.
• Troubleshooting: Demonstrating problem-solving skills when addressing any
issues arising during the tasks.
• Communication: Ability to send a test email and confirm network functionality.

Conclusion
