1 standard
In accordance with Code for Soil Test of Railway Engineering (TB10102-2004), Industry
Standard of People's Republic of China, E~D Plate Loading Test in Section 21.

2 Functions and Features

Light Weight Deflectometer (Abbreviated as LDW, LDW will be used in later sections) is suitable
for the detecting and monitoring of the bearing capacity of soils, with wide applications like the
construction quality control test for railway, highway, airport and industrial building under
dynamic loads, especially for the locations not readily accessible, like road bridge transition
section, existing railway line, etc. Three measuring impacts are to be performed after the
measuring routing is started. Settlement value is displayed on the instrument after each impact.
Upon completing a serial of measurement, the average settlement value and Dynamic
Deformation Modulus value are made and displayed on the LCD screen.

Fundamental Functions

Test
Upon the completing of the serial of test, three settlement values are displayed on the screen,
and the average settlement value Si and the dynamic modulus of resilience are calculated
automatically and also displayed on the screen.
Storage
Store the three settlement values under each serial number, average settlement value and the
dynamic modulus of resilience.
Print
Print the test data, calculation results, and testing curves by means of the Bluetooth printer
Time/Date
Modify the current time and date

5 Getting Ready for Measuring
Preparing the area to be tested
Select a plain area within the measurement range, position the loading plate while slightly turn
and pushing. The loading plate must be placed in full-are contact with the area to be tested so
that the impact force is optimally transmitted into the base, thus, the maximum settlement
amplitude under the entire area is determined. Fill in the hollow space under the loading plate
with loose medium sand.
Connecting the electronic settlement measuring instrument
The instrument should be powered off before connection. Connect the sensor of loading by
plugging into with the thick end of the cable, to the 3-pin round port of settlement measuring
instrument by plugging into with the thin end of the cable.
Remark:
Please make sure the marks on both the plug end and the socket are in alignment, and
hold on the two end of the cable before plug in or pull out, not allow to pull or drag the
on the cable. Care must be exercised to avoid any damaged for the connection between
the plug and the sensor socket.
Positioning the loading mechanism
Place the loading mechanism on the sensor of the Loading plate.
Removing the shipping & handling lock
A shipping & handling lock is provided to secure the drop-weight on the guide tube during
transporting. Please remove the shipping & handling lock before taking measurements.
Remark:
Remove the shipping & handling lock before taking measurements, and not allow to
press down the lock during the test. The lock can be press down to secure the drop
hammer until completing the test.
Precompacting the test area

4
To achieve an optimal position of the loading plate on the base, precompact the test area under
the loading plate by three impacts. Move the drop-weight fully up along the guide bar with one
hand, and engage it in the release mechanism. Use the bubble level to align the guide tube until
it is perpendicular to the soils, release the lever, the drop-weight falls down on the resilient
element package. Hold the bounding drop-weight by hand and engage it in the release
mechanism at predetermined position. Engage three times repeatedly, and precompacting
finishses.
6 Operations of the Instrument
6.1 Startup interface
Long press the power button to switch on the electronic settlement measuring instrument,
while "start ..." is displayed on the screen until the main display interface shows up as
illustrated in figure1.1

As shown in Figure 1.4 is the test program. A beep sound prompts to perform the test after
entering the test program. The first settlement value is determined and displayed on the screen
after the completing of the impacts simultaneously with a stop of the beep sound. Beeping
again to prompt to perform the second impact and the second settlement value will be
memorized by the program. During the process the settlement amplitude value falls out of the
range(O.l-2.0mm) , the words 'invalid ' displayed on the top right of the screen indicates the
settlement value falls out of the measurement range(0.1-2.0mm). Try again after beep again.
