Introduction to Project Management

Project : It is the collection of activities that are related/ connected for developing product or a
service. Project has always start and end times.
A Project converts a vision, a dream or a need to reality.
 A job that has a beginning and an end (Time)
 A specified outcome (Scope)
 At a stated level of performance (Quality)
 At a budget (Cost)
Two basic things for completion of a project are

1. Material resources
2. Man power resources

Management: It is the technique of understanding the problems, needs and controlling the use
of resources, cost, time, scope and quality.

Project Management: It is the application of knowledge, skills, tools & techniques to project
activities in order to meet stakeholder needs & expectations from a project.

Technology deals with material resources whereas management deals with both material
resources as well as man power resources.

There are mainly six phases of project management which is as follows

 Project Definition: Defining the goals, objectives and critical success factors for the
project
 Project Initiation: Everything needed to set up the project before work can start
 Project Planning: Detailed plans of how the work will be carried out, including time,
cost and resource estimates
 Project Execution: Doing the work to deliver the product, service or desired outcome
 Project Monitoring & Control: Ensuring that a project stays on track and taking
corrective action to ensure it does
 Project Closure: Formal acceptance of the deliverables and disbanding of all the
elements required to run the project
There are so many software are available in the market. But now days, MSP and Primavera
are most popular software which is used. Primavera is amazing software which can be used for
small as well as large project. In this software we can control and monitor as many projects at
one time.

PRIMAVERA

Primavera is used for making project management smooth. It is helpful in civil engineering for
creating strategies, controlled the delay of project and determines the optimum use of resources..
Primavera is used to complete the project within specified time and cost. It is the application of
skills, tools and techniques to project activities in order to fulfill the demand of the owner.
Primavera program is used to scheduling, controlling and estimating all types of projects.

Primavera P6 Used for

 Project planning & scheduling: Primavera P6 offers Gantt charts, project tables and
network diagrams as its main project planning and scheduling tools. These tools allow
users to create scope, schedule and resource baselines.

 Project portfolio management: It can manage multiple projects in a program or


portfolio at once with the enterprise project structure (EPS) tool.

 Resource management: Keep track and reallocate resources as needed by using


customizable resource leveling forms.

 Risk management: Risk analysis features allow project managers to identify, track and
resolve risks before they become issues.

 Contract management: Manage multiple projects, and get info from the database fast.

 Project Reporting: Report on timelines, resources and costs.
