CTF(Capture The Flag) – Rules & Regulations
A Capture The Flag (CTF) is a cybersecurity competition where participants solve challenges
in areas like hacking, cryptography, and forensics to find hidden "flags." These flags earn
points and simulate real-world security tasks, helping players build practical skills.

Onsite announcements
During the course of the competition there will be announcements made. Pay close attention
when they are made as they may mention hints about a specific challenge.

Challenges
The list of available challenges can be found at Challenges (available after competition
opens).

Binary Exploitation / Pwn

• Focuses on identifying and exploiting vulnerabilities in compiled binaries, such as

buffer overflows and memory corruption issues.

Reverse Engineering

• Involves analyzing compiled code to understand its functionality, often requiring

decompilation and code analysis techniques.

Web Application Exploitation

• Centers on finding and exploiting vulnerabilities in web applications, including SQL

injection, cross-site scripting (XSS), and authentication bypasses.

Cryptography

• Challenges related to encryption and decryption, requiring knowledge of

cryptographic algorithms and potential weaknesses.

Digital Forensics and Steganography

• Entails analyzing digital artifacts to uncover hidden information, often involving file
analysis and data recovery techniques.

Operating Systems Exploitation

• Focuses on exploiting vulnerabilities within operating systems, such as privilege

escalation and kernel exploits.

Mobile Device and Application Exploitation

• Centers on uncovering security flaws in mobile platforms and applications, including

Android and iOS.

Programming

11
• Tests participants' ability to solve programming challenges efficiently under time
constraints, often in languages like C++, C#, and Python.GTECH TV

Miscellaneous

• Covers a range of challenges that don't fit into the above categories, potentially
including steganography, logic puzzles, and unconventional problem-solving tasks.

For each of the challenges, you will be able to find the following details:
● The name and IP of the challenge
● The difficulty of the challenge
● The number of flags and services
● If the challenge requires you to gain root access or not
Please note that the challenges are not allowed to connect to the internet. They can however
connect to the IPs assigned to you by the platform.

Claiming flags
The flags are usually prefixed with ETSCTF_ followed by the flag such as
ETSCTF_FLAG. Alternatively, the flag can be formatted such as ETSCTF{FLAG}. In
any case getting the FLAG portion is enough

Gameplay
You earn points when you discover and claim flags. These flags can be found anywhere on
a challenge system; in the form of files, variable names, database names etc. These are the
most common you can find are:

● root: Flag under /root

● env: Environment variable flags
● system: Flags on system file (eg. /etc/shadow, /etc/passwd)
app: Application specific flags (eg. mysql database name flags, memcache keys etc)

● other: For any flags that do not fit into the above categories.
Besides flags, there are also findings, which represent remotely accessible services on the
challenge system. Connecting to these open ports may provide you with extra hints.
You need to connect to all listed services and discover all the flags from each challenge to
complete it.

Prizes &Registration
Registration Fee: 2500
Winner: Rs. 30,000/-

Runner-up: Rs. 15,000/-

12
Certificates: All participants will receive participation e-certificates.

Team Size: Min 1 and max of 4 members can participate.

Hints and Notifications

As you progress, new Hints will be made available for your consideration. Check your
progress by visiting the page for the challenge you are currently working on, as it provides
you with a list of the tasks you have completed and the ones still left to do. Any hints
associated with the challenge will be displayed underneath the challenge description of each
of the challenge pages.
Keep an eye at your notifications on top, as they may contain important information like
challenge additions, removals etc.

Writeups and Ratings

During the course of solving a challenge, it is advised to keep a detailed log of your work.
Once you have completed a challenge the options to submit a solution writeup along with
a rating menu will appear on the target page.
Submit a detailed writeup of what you did to solve the challenge. The best writeups from
each category will be awarded extra points

Hack The Box Meetup-(Free for Participants)
Welcome & Introduction (5–10 minutes)

You will greet all participants and provide a brief overview of the session's structure. Explain
that this is an opportunity for participants to present the Hack the Box (HTB) challenges
they have been working on, discuss their approaches, and share their experiences with the
group.

Additionally, offer a brief Ethical Reminder emphasizing the importance of ethical hacking.
Remind everyone to respect the methods of others, avoid spoilers, and focus on discussing
the process rather than giving away the full solution.

Group Discussion & Q&A (5–10 minutes)

Open the floor for questions from other participants after each presentation. Encourage
everyone to ask about the techniques, tools, and obstacles that were discussed during the
presentation. If someone has solved the same challenge differently, they are encouraged to
briefly share their own approach, which helps foster a collaborative learning environment.

There will be Giveaways after the meetup session.

HTB Meetup Groups

HTB Meetup Groups are local hacking communities that gather together to connect with like-
minded people, share knowledge, learn from each other, and evolve into cyber-ready humans.

How It All Started

Back in 2019, Julio Urena, an HTB Community member back then and an HTB employee
today, reached out to us about hosting a local hacking Meetup in his location with the support
of Hack The Box. Straight away, we agreed to support this initiative with a community-first
mindset as a driver.

Therefore, we started reaching out to loyal HTB Members to host their hacking sessions
globally by supporting them however we can.

Today, less than 3 years later, we count 48 Meetup Groups in over 32 countries, supporting

What Are Hack The Box Meetup Groups?

26
HTB Meetup Groups are local hacking communities that connect with like-minded people,
share knowledge, learn from each other, and evolve into cyber-ready humans.

Our ultimate goal is to be able to upskill everyone globally through these sessions.
Join a Hack The Box Meetup group in your area here.

What Are Hack The Box Meetup Events?

Depending on each group's skill level and needs, we choose together with the organizer
different forms of events:

• HTB Machine Walkthroughs

• General Technical/Security Workshops
• Guest Speakers on Specific Security Topics

HTB Meetup Events started as an on-site activity back in 2019. However, after the COVID-
19 outbreak, we decided to move everything to virtual till restrictions would allow us to go
back on-site. That skyrocketed all groups!

During the pandemic, people from all around the world used Meetups to connect with other
hackers virtually, learn, and upskill regardless of their location and local restrictions.

This resulted in 410 Events with 10,578 members from 32 countries globally.

Today, Meetup Events might take place on-site or virtually and can be hosted bi-weekly,
bimonthly, or quarterly, depending on the needs of each group.

announce future events and agenda, gather interest and people and kick-off interaction

machines available
• Private Discord Channel for all organizers to connect, share ideas and get inspired
