Sleepy Fox Baby Hat Pattern

I've had this pattern tested for errors and the clarity of the instructions. Please look
over the pattern carefully before starting. Instructions and photos for assembly
are on the last two pages.

Materials: Gauge:

• Worsted weight yarn in orange, black, and 4 dc sts = 1”/ 2.5cm

white. (I used Red Heart Super Savers) 8 dc rows = 4”/ 10cm

Check your gauge after doing a few rounds

If your gauge is off, I recommend
adjusting your tension and or using a

 This hat is made with 2”/ 5cm negative ease for a snug fit.

Magic Ring:

A few inches from the end of the yarn, wrap two loops over your finger. While the loops
still on your finger, insert the hook from right to left into the loops and pull the working
yarn through.
Carefully take the loops off your fingers and chain one. This doesn't count as the first
stitch.

Insert the hook into the two loops again and pull up a loop. Yarn over and draw through
both loops. This counts as the first single crochet stitch. Continue for the rest of the
stitches. Then pull the yarn tail to close the hole.

Color Changes :

When you get to the last stitch in the current color, insert hook into the next
stitch, yarn over, and draw up a loop.
 Yarn over with the new color and draw through both loops on the hook.

Assembly:
Make sure the seam of the hat is in the center of the back. Sew on the nose
over 2 sts of the top white round of the hat.

Position the eyes as shown in the photos for the size you're making and pin in
place. Sew into the underside loops of the foundation chains onto the hat.

Sew the inner ears onto the ears by sewing through both loops of the white
pieces onto a loop of a stitch on the ear (instead of going through a stitch to
the back so there's no white stitching on the back of the ear).
Then sew the ears onto the hat.
