BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The objective of this course is to explore the languages teaching in Honduras, its
curricular dimension and teaching methodology in the last three decades. To this end,
we will revisit the history and fundamentals of curriculum design since its origin in
English as a Second or Foreign Language (ESL/EFL ) teaching and learning. In the
process, students will also reevaluate the Honduran educational curriculum.

Amongst other no less important matters, learners will discuss the importance of
English for Specific Purposes (ESP) or English for Academic Purposes (EAP). We will
debate if those subjects are a need or on the other hand, they might be unnecessary for
the Honduran Educational Curriculum (CNB) on Pre-Basic and Basic Education.

Another important goal is to have the prospect graduates exploring the factors that may
or may not influence the problematic, if that is the case, faced in language teaching in
our country. For instance, learners will make research on those issues and based on the
results, they will come up with a proposal to contribute to enhance the language
teaching in Honduras especially in the teaching of English as a Foreign language.

LEARNING ASSESSMENT:

Active participation on class discussions according to the different topics discussed on


this course, attendance, content related extensive readings, online and live tasks
completion, tasks completion using the Web-2.0, online journal keeping, debates,
research on language teaching and learning, to complete a variety intensive related task.
Debates, films analysis, practice curriculum design by creating fictitious proposals for
EFL Teaching and Learning , enhance learning and teaching skills in a fun and dynamic
way, put in practice their expertise on this subject´s content.

TEACHING METHODOLOGY:

2. Ability to communicate in an oral and written form in the native language in a
high-advanced level
3. Ability to know and communicate fluently in all the skills of the foreign
language
4. Ability to use technology for virtual educational purposes

7. Ability to respect the diversity, multiculturalism and human rights
8. Ability to demonstrate ethical(moral) commitment
9. Ability to promote in students and themselves the independent learning
10. Ability to think in a critical and analytical way
IV.SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES: THE PROSPECT TEACHERS ARE
COMPETENT AT:
1. Capacity to demonstrate his/her communicative competence throughout
different situations related to the academic, social and cultural context;
applying strategic elements of discourse, grammar and sociolinguistic.
2. Capacity to know the linguistic elements of English
3. Capacity to use technology for learning and teaching purposes
4. Capacity to recognize the changing nature of the English language
through their own learning
5. Capacity to understand the levels of the English language acquisition
and to use this knowledge to create an ambiance in the classroom
that includes a significant interaction of opportunities to negotiate
meaning
6. Capacity to apply the curricular methodologies to evaluate, select,
design pedagogic resources
7. Capacity to keep relationships of interchange and cooperation using
the English language in specific situations and in a variety of context
8. Capacity to work in all systems Face to Face/ Blended or totally
virtual.
V.SUB-COMPETENCIES: THE PROSPECT TEACHERS IN THIS SUBJECT
WILL
1. Critically analyze the characteristics and problems of the teaching of
English in the national educational system (public education)
2. Carry out research elaborate an objective diagnostic to evaluate the
current situation of the teaching of English in the national education
3. Develop their teaching-learning skills through the use of computers
and other electronic devices.
4. Enhance their knowledge about Virtual learning and teaching.
5. Critically evaluate the results of the research made on the current
situation of English teaching in the national educational system
6. Associate the component of the English Language in the proposals of
transformation of the national education
7. Critically evaluate the Basic National Curriculum |(CBN)
8. Critically analyze and value curricular designs and to practice the
teaching methodology for the teaching of English as foreign language
9. Analyze and critically value the different kinds of curricular designs
and to practice the teaching of English as a Second Language
10.Identify, analyze and critically value the component of teaching and
learning English in the pre-basic level grade 0 of the National Basic
Curriculum (CBN)
11.Identify, analyze and critically value the component of teaching and
learning English in the second and third levels (cycles) of the National
Basic Curriculum (CBN)
12.Identify and critically evaluate the methodological proposals for the
second and third levels(cycles) of the National Basic Curriculum (CBN)
13.Diagnose and analyze the situation of the current teaching and
learning of English in the high school level (public basic schools
14.Critically evaluate the results of the research
15.Identify, analyze and value the alternative programs of English
learning the national educational system
