The Gifting Hat and Scarf

This set is the perfect gift to knit for anyone. Whether it’s for your female co-worker
or your grandfather, even picky people will love these! It’s oh-so-cozy and warm,
unisex, sturdy, and it’s just perfect! Anyone would love to receive this to keep them
warm in cold weather.
Pattern Overview
This scarf and hat are knit in garter stitch with slipped stitches. The hat is worked crown to brim.
The scarf is worked lengthwise with a stretchy selvedge. The pattern shows the same on both
right side and wrong side of garments.

Sizing Scarf Finished Size: 7.8 in / 19.5 cm width and 5.5 ft / 1.6 m length.

Hat Finished Circumference:


18 (21) 24 in / 45.7 (53) 61 cm
Choose a size that has about 2 in / 5 cm of negative ease.

Gauge 2.5mm (US #1.5) 34 in / 86 cm circular needles


or size needed to obtain gauge.

24 sts and 36 rows in 4 in / 10 cm in garter stitch pattern

Yarn Fingering weight yarn:

Hat: 150 (180) 215 yds / 138 (64) 197 m


Scarf: 453 yds / 414 m

Special Stitch Instructions:
EZ sewn bind off:
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Attach to tapestry needle.
Step 1: Insert needle purl-wise into next two sts.
Step 2: Insert needle knit-wise into the first st and slip off.
Repeat steps until one st remains. Insert needle purlwise into last st and slip off.

Magic Circle Cast On:


Step 1: Create a small circle with your yarn, keep the tail to the right and on top of the circle.
Step 2: Take your needle and insert it into the circle from back to front, keep the yarn tail on
top of the circle and behind the needle. Pinch the yarn loop tight around the needle.
Step 3: Yarn over
Step 4: Insert needle into loop and bring up a stitch.
Repeat steps 3 & 4 until you have the correct number of stitches. Carefully continue in the round
and place a BOR marker.

Scarf Pattern Directions

Cast on 46 sts using the German twisted cast on method.

Follow the chart, or written instructions below:

Row 1: Sl1wyif, yo, k to end. 47 sts


Row 2: Sl1wyif, yo, k3, *p1, sl1wyib, k4* six times, p1, sl1wyib, k3, k2tog. 47 sts
Row 3: Repeat Row 2. 47 sts

Repeat Rows 2 and 3 for 5.5 ft / 1.6 m or until you’ve reached your desired length.

Work one more Row 2, without yarning over after slipping the first stitch. 46 sts

Cut and weave in ends. Hand wash gently in cool water, lay flat to dry, and enjoy!

Hat Pattern Directions
Each rounds instructions are repeated 6 (7) 8 times per round and every increase round adds 6 (7)
8 sts. You may find it helpful to place stitch markers after every repeat to help prevent mistakes
and make counting easier!

Bind off using the EZ sewn bind off.
