Topic – Song Of The Rain By Kahlil Gibran

Genre – Poetry

Overview - The poem ‘Song Of The Rain’ describes the beauty and music of the rain. The theme of
the poem is the relationship between the rain and the earth. The poem explores how rain is a
source of joy and inspiration, how it has the power to rejuvenate and transform the world.

Focused skills / competencies

- To enable students to recite the poem with proper rhyme and rhythm.

- To enable them to understand the basic terminology and practical elements of the poetry.

- To develop the ability of appreciation of ideas and critical thinking.

- To cultivate interest in poetry.

- To train the emotions, feelings and imagination of the students.

- To admire the bliss of nature in the form of rain.

Targeted learning Outcomes:


- Students will be able to describe the meanings of words and phrases given in the poem.

- Students will be able to interpret the theme of the poem.

- They would be able to read the poem with proper tone and rhyme and develop an
interest in poetry.

- They would be able to identify the poetic devices used in the poem.

- Their critical and creative thinking skills would be enhanced.

- They would be able to imbibe the moral value of preserving the nature for human
welfare.

Introduction of the Topic Pre Reading Activity:

Activation Of Prior Knowledge:

The session would begin with an interactive session wherel the


students will answer the following questions:

- Can you think of any one important element we cannot survive


without other than air?

-Why is it essential for our survival?

- Where do we get it from?

- What is the very basic natural source of having water on earth?

The title of the poem ‘Song Of The Rain’ would be introduced to


the class.

⁸To generate Idea The background knowledge of the poet would be given.

The teacher will recite the first three stanzas of the poem with
correct stress, tone and intonation.

The teacher will ask a few students to recite the poem with
proper rhyme and rhythm.

Students would be asked to do the silent reading of the poem.


They would be given instructions to pay attention towards the
new words and the literary devices used in the text.

Comprehension Check Teacher would ask some basic questions to assess the students’
comprehension of the poem with their first reading.

Furthermore, for a deeper comprehension of the text difficult


words and expressions would be listed and explained.

The stanzas would be further elaborated upon covering the


phrases, sentences and discourse as well as their structuring.

The literary devices and the rhyming scheme would be discussed.

Recapitulation The teacher would recapitulate the main and the supporting
ideas of the poem by using question answer method wherein all
students would get a chance to speak .One row of the students
would frame questions and the another would answer.
