Edmar Batac, 30, the self-made


entrepreneur behind the Foss Coffee
chain, is earning millions every week.
However, despite his vast fortune,
there is one thing that he can’t afford
to buy: a family photo with his
mother, father, wife and children.
Born to a dysfunctional family, Edmar’s
parents separated when he was barely a
teen. Despite his innocence, he
embraced the responsibility of being the
breadwinner of his siblings. He recalled
that there were times when he went to
his father to ask for help, but instead, he
got nothing but insults instead of
fatherly care.
After a few years, he lived with his
mother and stepfather in Manila. This is
when his suffering went for the worse.

na yung napupunta sa akin, para na
sana sa -mga kapatid ko. Araw-araw
akong sinusumbatan,” he said.

Every night, he would sleep on a double bed
where his legs are extended from the edge. To
sleep comfortably, he would place a chair in
the edge where he can place his legs while
lying down.

He sold vegetables, and worked as a computer


shop staff and a carwash boy, but he was
unable to save for his own future. When he
reached adulthood, he worked as an OFW in
Macau, but after a few months, he went home
penniless.
In high hopes of changing his fate, he enrolled
and finished a degree in TESDA, where he
received
P 8,000 after graduation. Together with his
savings of P 15,000, he used this as capital to
open a small coffee frappe business which
grew from one simple kiosk to a total of 250
branches nationwide.

From a poverty-stricken lad to a millionaire,


Edmar now lives the life he only dreamed
when he was young.
He now has his own townhouse, cars, and
other properties.

Yet, despite the material wealth that surrounds


him, there is no amount of money that can buy
him that one family photo of him with his
mom and dad. He thought it will never
happen, but as they say, in this world, nothing
is impossible for those who believe.
Through the help of GMA-7’s top-rating
magazine show, Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho,
Edmar and his mother were able to reunite
with his estranged father. Together with his
wife Kim and their three children, Edmar
gamely posed with his parents for a family
photo. Literally, in just one click, Edmar’s long-
standing dream of having a family photo
became a reality- something he can have and
hold which proves that no material wealth can
ever compensate for the happiness brought
about by family.
