Math SSS 1 Week 9 2ND Term

This document outlines a lesson plan for a mathematics class focused on trigonometric ratios for SSS 1 students, scheduled for the week of March 3-7, 2025. The lesson aims to help students understand sine, cosine, and tangent ratios, identify triangle sides, and apply these concepts to solve real-life problems. The plan includes various activities such as introduction, instruction, independent practice, assessment, and a conclusion to reinforce learning.

SECOND TERM,ACADEMIC SESSION 2024/2025

LESSON PLAN FOR WEEK FOR WEEK 9

Subject: MATHEMATICS

Lesson Topic: TRIGONOMETRIC RATIOS

Class: SSS 1

Time: 40 minutes

Date : 3rd March,2025 To 7th March,2025

OBJECTIVE:

By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

Understand the basic trigonometric ratios: sine, cosine, and tangent.

Identify and label the sides of a right triangle relative to a given angle.

Apply trigonometric ratios to find missing sides in right triangles.

Solve real-life problems using trigonometric ratios.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

Graphing calculator

Whiteboard and markers

Ruler and protractor

Worksheets with practice problems

LCD projector or smartboard (optional)

Lesson Outline:
1. Introduction (10 minutes)

Greeting and Attendance (2 minutes)

Greet the students and take attendance.

Warm-Up Activity (3 minutes)

A quick revision on right-angled triangles and Pythagoras’ Theorem. Ask a

couple of questions to assess prior knowledge.

Objective Overview (2 minutes)

Briefly explain the learning objectives for today’s lesson.

Engage Activity (3 minutes)

Show a picture of a real-world application of trigonometry (e.g., measuring

the height of a tree using the angle of elevation).

2. Instruction (25 minutes)

Introduction to Trigonometric Ratios (10 minutes)

Define trigonometric ratios: sine, cosine, and tangent.

Use the acronym SOH-CAH-TOA to help memorize the ratios:

Sine = Opposite / Hypotenuse

Cosine = Adjacent / Hypotenuse

Tangent = Opposite / Adjacent

Draw a right triangle on the board, label the sides, and demonstrate each
ratio.

Examples and Guided Practice (15 minutes)

Solve a few example problems on the board involving each ratio. Show
step-by-step solutions.

Labeling the triangle sides based on a given angle.

Finding a missing side using sine, cosine, or tangent.

3. Practice (20 minutes)

Independent Practice (10 minutes)

Distribute a worksheet with practice problems.

Students work individually to solve problems involving trigonometric ratios.

Group Activity (10 minutes)

Form small groups and provide each group with a different word problem
involving real-life scenarios where they need to use trigonometric ratios to
find a solution.

Each group will solve the problem and present their solution to the class.

4. Assessment and Review (10 minutes)

Quick Quiz (5 minutes)

A short quiz with 3-5 questions to assess individual understanding.

Review and Q&A (5 minutes)

Go over the quiz answers and clarify any remaining doubts.

Answer any questions the students might have.

5. Conclusion (5 minutes)

Recap (3 minutes)

Summarize the key points of the lesson. Reiterate the definitions and
ratios.

Homework Assignment (2 minutes)

Assign additional practice problems from the textbook or a worksheet to

reinforce the day’s learning.
