QUESTIONS

1. IN NOT MORE THAN 3 PAGES, DISCUSS THE RELEVANCE

OF THIS COURSE IN BOOSTING PRODUCTIVITY IN YOUR
PLACE OF WORK.

ANSWER

Transport and technology are integral part to any society. Their strategic importance
cannot be underestimated as products & services must reach their final consumer.

The importance of the sector to the overall development of any nation cannot be
overemphasized as transport innovation was a catalyst for growth in the 19 th Century
industrial revolutions, and innovations in transport and innovations in transport and
logistics also led the economic & environmental drivers of the technology revolution
of the last Century.

The introduction of transport technology into a company enables swift connections

services and enables workers to be safer, more informed, and be more coordinated and
smarter.

Transport technology helps companies to function more productively, while

improving the lives of citizens: Travel across traditional modes of transport (such as
Boats, Cars, Bus, Train and Air) sees immediate benefits in enhancing traffic safety,
creating immediate alerts for dangerous weather, heavy traffic, and unsafe conditions
which results in reduction of accidents and loss of lives.

The transport technology is currently providing a major positive impact on transport

development and the awareness of communication in modern day society.

This course is of great relevance as it aims to educate students on how transport

technology in making border crossings faster, more secure and more efficient, reducing
transport costs, boosting trade and creating exponential productivity at workplace.

When transport technology systems are efficient, they provide economic and social
opportunities and benefits that result in positive multiplier effects such as better
accessibility to markets, employments and additional investments. Transport
technology carries an important social and environmental load, which cannot be
neglected.

Therefore, it is rather impossible for a low productivity to occur at the work places
of students of this great institution.
2. TRANSPORT COST IS VERY IMPORTANT TO EVERY ECONOMY
DISCUSS (2 PAGES)

ANSWER

Transportation is the foundation of any society.

Economy thrives on having the right Infrastructure that consists of features such as proper
Road Links and Modern Airports. Many Industries require transport to improve their
businesses

Workers depend on transport to fulfill their obligations.

The development of transportation systems is embedded within the scale and

context in which they take place, from the local to the global and from the Environmental,
Historical, Technological and Economic Perspectives.

Development can be defined as improving the welfare of a society through appropriate

Social, Political and Economic conditions.

The expected outcomes are quantitative and qualitative improvement in Human capital
(e.g. Income and Education levels) as well as Physical capital such as Infrastructures
(Utilities, Transports, Telecommunication)

The development of transportation systems takes place in a socioeconomic context.

The highly transactional and service oriented functions of many transport activities
underline the complex relationship between its Physical and human capital needs. For
instance, effective logistics rely on infrastructures and managerial expertise.

Because of its intensive use of infrastructures, the transport sector is an important

component of the economy and a common tool used for development. This is even more
so in a global economy where economic opportunities have been increasingly related to
the mobility of people and freight, including information and communication
technologies. When transport systems are efficient, they provide economic and social
opportunities and benefits that result in positive multiplier effects such as better
accessibility to market, employment and additional investments. When transport systems
are deficient in terms of capacity or reliability, they can have an economic loss such as
reduced or missed opportunities and lower quality of life.
At the aggregate level, efficient transportation reduces costs in many economic
sectors, while in efficient transportation increases the costs.

Assessing the economic importance of transportation requires the categorization of

the types of impacts it conveys.

These involve Core (The Physical Characteristics of Transportations, Operational and

Geographical Dimensions.

CORE
The most fundamental impacts of transportation related to the physical capacity to convey
passengers and goods and the associated costs to support this mobility. This involves the
setting of routes enabling new or existing interactions between economic entities.

OPERATIONAL
Improvement in the time performance notably in terms of reliability, as well as reduced
loss or damage.
This implies a better utilization level of existing transportation assets benefiting its users
as passengers and freight are conveyed more rapidly and with fewer delays.

GEOGRAPHICAL
Access to a broader market base where economies of scale in production, distribution, and
consumption can be improved. Increases in productivity from the access to a larger and
more diverse base of inputs (raw materials, parts, energy, or labor) and broader markets
for diverse outputs (intermediate and finished goods).

Another important geographical impact concerns the influence of transport on the

location of activities and its impacts on land values.

Finally in every aspect of man’s activities, transportation has come to play a vital
role which ranks it among the most important determinants of success in human and
economic activities.
