A. Answer the following questions in 40-50 words.

1. Why does Mrs. Pumphrey think the dog’s recovery is ‘A Triumph of Surgery’?

Mrs Pumphrey thinks that Tricki’s recovery is a triumph of surgery because his illness was very serious.
She was of the opinion that there were very few chances of Tricki to improve and he needed immediate
medical attention. Thus, his revival without any medicinal treatment was a great achievement, according
to her.

2. Is the narrator as rich as Mrs. Pumphrey? Give evidence from the text to support
your answer.

No, the narrator is not as rich as Tricki’s mistress, Mrs Pumphery. We can say so because the narrator
seems fascinated by how lavishly Mrs Pumphrey spends on the well-being and maintenance of her pet.
He is unusually surprised by the enriching items she sends for Tricki, as he cannot afford them for
himself.

3. Mrs. Pumphrey was extremely fond of her dog. Elucidate with examples from the
text.

Mrs. Pumphrey was very fond of her dog. She gave him five star treatment. She provided him with
delicious food to eat. Rather she overfed him by giving him little extra between meals. She felt miserable
when Tricki was hospitalized. She sent eggs and wine for his speedy recovery. Tears of joy were seen in
her eyes after seeing the dog recovered.

4. How was Tricki to be blamed for his terrible condition? Elucidate.

Tricki was Mrs. Pumphreys favorite dog. No doubt, she loved him very much and so, pampered him. But
then it was Trickis fault also. He was a greedy dog who wanted to eat anything and everything which
was served to him. He had never refused to eat food and used to have meal at any hour of the day or
night. He had become a glutton. He changed his system very easily according to the luxuries he got.
Apart from all that, he never believed in going for exercises or walk. He rather tried to please his
mistress by eating all the time, be it sweets or eggs. So, he was also to be blamed for his present
condition.

Dear Madellin ( any name) ,

Hope you're doing well. Its been a long time since I met you. I hope you remember about
Tricky well, remember I had told you about how inactive he was I thought he was
malnutrition but turns out that he was actually overweight. Let me tell you the story in
short, well one fine day I went out with Tricky and on the was a vet named Mr. Herriot
walked out to me and asked me about Tricky's diet I told him everything he ate and he
was shocked to hear it. he told me that Tricky needs to loose some weight. But off course
i didn't like hearing that. well, after two days Tricky was actually feeling very bad and
had to be taken to the vet immediately. I don't know what Mr. Harriot did to Tricky he
was fit and fine when I saw him after his surgery. All i could say was that "It was a
Triumph of Surgery"

Your dearest,

Mrs. Pumphrey

2. Excess of everything is bad. Comment in the wake of Mrs Pumphrey’s love for
Tricki.

Mrs. Pumphrey’s extreme love for Tricki led to his poor health. She overfed him with cakes and
chocolates, making him obese and inactive. Her excessive pampering showed that too much love and
care, without understanding the real need, can do more harm than good.
