Five Main positions in basketball:
• Point Guard (PG) – the leader on the
court who runs the offense, usually
the best dribbler and passer on the

team and is positioned near the basket,
plays an important role in both offense
and defense
• Point Forward – plays like a forward,
while having the skill set of a point
guard, they are taller than a point
guard, yet have comparable ball
handling skills to a point guard
History of Basketball
• Invented by Dr. James Naismith in
December 1891 in Springfield,
Massachusetts.
• Luther Hasley Gulick – Dr. James
supervisor who challenged Naismith to
invent a new indoor game for the long
New England winter.
• The first basket used for the game was a
peach basket and a soccer ball for 2 years.

vigorous physical
activities
Temporary Health
Conditions:
• Dehydration – it is an abnormal
depletion of body fluids, it
happens when body loses greater
amount of water than the amount
being taken in.

• Prevention – drink water before

and after an exercise, replenish
electrolytes, have regular breaks,
and avoid alcoholic and
caffeinated beverages
Temporary Health
Conditions:

people push themselves too hard
during a physical activity, sports
and exercise, motion control video
games such as Nintendo Wii and
PlayStation Move, hobbies like
woodworking, building and
remodeling.

• Prevention – maintain proper

of having an abnormally low
body temperature, usually
caused by prolonged exposure
to cold temperature.

• Prevention – wear warm but

breathable layers of clothing,
pay attention to shivering,
take several breaks in an
exercise to maintain core
body temperature, bring extra
clothes.
Temporary Health
Conditions:
• Hyperthermia – occurs when
the body’s core temperature
begins to rise. Heat stress,
heat fatigue, and heat
exhaustion are the stages of
hyperthermia
